Hillary Clinton es oficialmente el candidato del Partido Demócrata para la elección presidencial de 2016 – y su candidatura es un triunfo espectacular.
El martes (26 de julio) en Filadelfia, los demócratas hicieron historia al elegir a una mujer como su candidato presidencial. La nominación es un gran paso hacia el logro de la igualdad de género en América. Clinton lo dijo aún mejor cuando afirmó: “Es un honor increíble que me ha dado usted – y no puedo creer que finalmente pondremos una grieta mayor en ese techo de cristal.”
Es triste decirlo, pero muchas personas no pensaron que vivirían lo suficiente para ver un candidato presidencial femenino de uno de los principales partidos políticos en América. Por supuesto, que tomó mucho tiempo, pero es mejor tarde que nunca. Y como sugirió Clinton, su nominación debería resultar de inspiración para futuros líderes políticos.
“Si hay algún niñas por ahí que se quedaron hasta tarde para ver, permítanme decirles que yo podría convertirme en la primera mujer presidente”, dijo. “Pero una de ustedes puede ser la próxima.”
Justo cuando gran parte del mundo parece estar en guerra, noticias como ésta ofrece alguna esperanza que las condiciones pueden mejorar. En cuanto los seres humanos podamos dejar de mirar el sexo de una persona, color de piel, religión y / o el origen étnico para juzgar su valor, entonces podremos empezar a superar nuestras diferencias y empezar a vivir en un mundo más pacífico.

Nominating Hillary Clinton is a spectacular triumph

Hillary Clinton is officially the Democratic Party’s nominee for the 2016 presidential election – and her nomination is a spectacular triumph.
On Tuesday (July 26) in Philadelphia, the Democrats made history by choosing a woman as their presidential nominee. The nomination is a great stride toward achieving gender equality in America. Clinton said it best when she stated: “What an incredible honor that you have given me – and I can’t believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet.”
Sad to say, but many people didn’t think they’d live to see an American female major-party presidential nominee. Granted, it took a long time, but it’s better late than never. And as Clinton suggested, her nomination should prove inspirational to future political leaders.
“If there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, let me just say I may become the first woman president,” she said. “But one of you is next.”
Just when much of the world appears to be at war, news like this provides some hope that conditions can improve. When we humans can stop looking at a person’s gender, skin color, religion and/or ethnicity to judge his or her worthiness, then we can start overcoming our differences and start living in a more peaceful world.
What a spectacular triumph that would be!
