Escoger la niñera correcta no es fácil, más que todo después de escuchar historias sobre niñeras que abusan a bebés y niños pequeños.
De acuerdo a un estudio realizado por el FBI y el sistema nacional de Incidentes, las niñeras ocuparon un pequeño porcentaje de cometer crímenes violentos hacia niños.
El estudio mostró un 0,5 porciento de los crímenes cometidos fueron a jóvenes menores de 18 años y un 4,2 porciento fueron contra niños menores de seis años.
A pesar de que las cifras no son altas, el riesgo siempre está presente. Los siguientes son algunos pasos para elegir la niñera correcta:
* Pregunte a las personas: Es más fácil y más seguro dejar a sus hijos con personas que conoce que con un extraño, además otras personas pudieron haber pasado por el mismo proceso antes que usted.
* Entreviste: Tómese el tiempo para conocer a la persona con la que confiará sus hijos. Entreviste a varias personas, llévelos a su casa y vea cómo interactúan con sus hijos.
* Pida referencias: Siempre pide experiencia previa, realice llamadas, y asegúrese de que la información sea correcta.
* Verifique y controle: Confíe en sus niños, hágale preguntas acerca de las actividades que hicieron y pregunte si les gustó la niñera. También, realice llamadas constantes al principio hasta que se sienta cómodo y seguro de la persona que cuida de sus hijos.

Choosing the right babysitter is difficult, especially after hearing stories about babysitters abusing children.
According to a study by the FBI and the National Incident-Based Reporting System, babysitters form only a small percentage of the offenders who commit violent crimes against children. But although the numbers aren’t high, the risk is always there.
The following are some tips for picking the right babysitter:
*Ask people: Others may have gone through the process of finding the right babysitter before you have.
*Interview: Take time to get to know the person you’re trusting to watch your kids. Interview several people, bring them to your home and see how they interact with your kids.
*Request references: Always ask for previous experience. Make calls and make sure the information matches the references.
*Check with your kids: Ask them questions about what they did and if they liked the babysitter. Make constant calls at the beginning until you feel confortable and trust the person taking care of your children.
*If necessary, go with the familiar: Sometimes, it’s easier and safer to leave your kids with people you know than with a stranger.
