Adultos se oponen a la idea de vender tablas Ouija a niños
De acuerdo a una encuesta realizada por Debate.org, el 82 por ciento de los adultos creen que las tablas Ouija no deberían ser vendidas a los niños.
Kansas City, Mo., residente Alessandra Smith es una de los adultos del área de Kansas City que se oponen a que las tiendas vendan este juego a los niños.
“Los niños son demasiado inocentes”, dijo Smith. “No creo que deberíamos ponerles cosas como estas en la mente de los niños.”
Un juego de mesa de preguntas existe desde hace muchos años, la ouija es un “juego interesante y misterioso que ha demostrado que funciona,” según un artículo publicado por el Instituto del Smithsonian. El juego consiste en un tablero con el alfabeto y los números de 0-9; las palabras “sí” y “no” en la parte superior, y “adiós” en la parte inferior; y un objeto en forma de gota que se mueve en el tablero. La idea del juego es hacer preguntas y el objeto se moverá alrededor del tablero deletreando la respuesta.
“En realidad funciona”, dijo Geoff Holland, residente de Kansas City Mo. “Jugué cuando vivía en Virginia con dos de mis compañeros.”
De acuerdo a Holland, la ciudad en Virginia donde vivía solía ser un pueblo de esclavos en los años de 1800. Él recuerda su experiencia como una “historia de miedo” y dijo que cree que funciona en ciertos lugares, aquellos en los que la presencia de espíritus es más común.
“Los espíritus con los que hablamos pensamos que eran esclavos,” dijo. “Porque cuando les preguntamos sus nombres la tabla nos mostró números de tres dígitos, entonces investigamos y nos dimos cuenta que antes cada esclavo tenía un número asignado … Daba miedo, después de que jugamos cosas extrañas comenzaron a pasar. Podíamos sentir el aire frío alrededor de la casa, se podía oír pasos arriba cuando no había nadie allí, pero la cosa más miedosa era cuando se sentía como si alguien estaba allí cuando dormíamos. “
Holland dijo que después de jugar durante tres meses decidieron quemar el tablero, sin embargo, dos años más tarde, cuando ya vivía en Kansas City tuvo un sueño relacionado con él.
A pesar de las historias y preocupaciones, las tablas Ouija se pueden encontrar en las tiendas, incluyendo tiendas de niños como Toys R Us. Parte de la publicidad para estos juegos también podría atraer a los niños a que jueguen, como el siguiente mensaje:

Aunque el juego puede parecer inofensivo para algunas personas, durante muchos años, los investigadores han mostrado y han dicho que los tableros de Ouija pueden abrir puertas para comunicarse con los muertos y deben ser manejados de manera responsable.

Most adults oppose Ouija boards being sold to kids

According to a survey by Debate.org, 82 percent of adults believe Ouija boards should not be sold to children.
Kansas City, Mo., resident Alessandra Smith is among those Kansas City area adults who oppose stores selling the game to children.
“Kids are so innocent,” Smith said. “I don’t think you should put stuff like this on kids’ minds.”
A U.S. parlor game staple for many years, the Ouija board is an “interesting and mysterious game that has been proven to work,” according to an article by the Smithsonian Institute. The game consists of a board with the alphabet and numbers 0-9; the words “yes” and “no” on top, and “good bye” at the bottom; and a tea drop-shaped object that moves around the board. The idea of the game is to ask questions and have the object move around the board spelling the answer.
“It actually works,” said Geoff Holland, Kansas City Mo. Resident. “I played it when I was living in Virginia with two of my roommates.”
According to Holland, the town in Virginia used to be a slave town back in the 1800s. He remembers his experience as a “scary story” and said he believes it works on certain locations, the ones where presence of spirits is more common.
“The spirits we talked to we think were slaves,” he said. “Because when we asked them their names the board moved to three digit numbers, so we researched it and back in the day each slave had a number assigned… It was scary, after we played weird things started happening. We could feel cold air around the house, you could hear steps upstairs when no one was there, but the scariest thing was feeling like someone was there when I went to sleep.”
Holland said after playing it for three months they decided to burn the board, however, two years later, living in Kansas City he had a dream related to it.
Despite the stories and concerns, Ouija boards can be found at stores, including children’s stores such as Toys R Us. Some of the advertising for Ouija boards also might encourage children to play, such as the following passage:
“Enter the world of the mysterious and mystifying with the Ouija board! You’ve got questions and the spirit world has answers. What do you want to know? Ask your question with a friend and the planchette that comes with the board, but be patient and concentrate because the spirits can’t be rushed.”
Although the game might sound harmless to some people, for many years, researchers have showed and said that Ouija boards can open doors to communicate with the dead and should be handled responsibly.
