VIH aumenta entre jóvenes latinos

De acuerdo con recientes estadísticas médicas, más de 203,000 hispanos viven con VIH en Estados Unidos.
Durante los últimos años, el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos de Estados Unidos y otras organizaciones han visto un aumento de casos de VIH en la población latina de Estados Unidos. Además, de acuerdo con los Centros para Control y Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC), más latinos viven con VIH que cualquier otro grupo.
Para promover la conciencia de VIH entre los latinos, varias agencias federales están informando a la gente sobre los beneficios de hacerse la prueba y recibir tratamientos si son positivos para VIH.
“La gente con VIH que sabe que están contagiados pueden recibir tratamiento”, declaró recientemente el CDC en su sitio en la red. “Las personas contagiadas con VIH si reciben el tratamiento efectivo se mantienen saludables y viven más tiempo “.
Debido al creciente número de casos de VIH, los activistas están empujando a los latinos para que se cuiden.
“Este VIH es algo que no es exclusivo de los homosexuales”, se citó a Luciano Reberte, un miembro de la Comisión Latina sobre el SIDA, por el periódico La Visión. “Es muy importante que todos se hagan la prueba”.

HIV increasing among Latino youth

According to recent health statistics, more than 203,000 Hispanics live with HIV in the United States.
During the past few years, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and other organizations have seen an increase in HIV cases in the U.S. Latino population. Moreover, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more Latinos are living with HIV than some other races.
To promote HIV awareness among Latinos, several federal agencies are informing people about the benefits of getting tested and receiving treatment if they’re HIV positive.
“People with HIV who know they are infected can get treatment,” the CDC stated recently on its Web site. “Effective treatment keeps HIV-infected people healthy and living longer.”
Because of the growing number of HIV cases, activists are pushing Latinos to take care of themselves.
“This (HIV) is something that it is not exclusive to homosexuals,” Luciano Reberte, a member of the Latino Commission on AIDS, was quoted by the newspaper La Vision as saying. “It is very important that everyone gets tested.”
