El ballet de Cascanueces se basa en la historia alemana El cascanueces y el rey de los ratones, escrita por Hoffmann en 1816 .
Según el nutcrackerballet.net, la trama de la novela consiste en “la historia de un joven alemán que sueña con un príncipe Cascanueces y una feroz batalla contra un rey de los ratones con siete cabezas.”
Durante muchos años la historia no era un cuento para niños; sin embargo, en 1892 un escritor francés, Alejandro Dumas la reescribió y el coreógrafo ruso, Marius Petipa escribió el primer guión musical. Desde entonces, se ha convertido en el ballet más popular de Navidad.
Según Nutcracker.com, el estreno en Estados Unidos fue en 1944 por el Ballet de San Francisco; y luego, en 1954 el ballet de Nueva York lo realizó en la ciudad de Nueva York e incrementó su popularidad.
Hoy en día, la historia de la Navidad se ha publicado en diferentes libros- incluyendo libros infantiles, y tiene una variedad de versiones.
The Nutcracker: traditional Christmas story

The nutcracker ballet is based on the German story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, written by Hoffmann in 1816.
According to the nutcrackerballet.net, the story plot consists on “the story of a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King with seven heads.”
For many years the story was not a children’s story, however, in 1892 a French writer, Alexander Dumas rewrote it and a Russian choreographer, Marius Petipa wrote the first musical script. Since then, it has become the most popular ballet Christmas musical.
According to Nutcracker.com, the first performance in the United States was in 1944 by the San Francisco Ballet. Then, in 1954 The New York City Ballet performed it in New York City and raised its popularity.
Nowadays, the Christmas story has been published in different books- including children’s books, and has a variety of versions.
