Por ser marzo el mes de la mujer, Dos Mundos ha elegido mujeres latinas que han sobresalido en la comunidad y han dado ejemplo alcanzando grandes metas y posiciones por su esfuerzo y dedicación en las diferentes industrias
Denise LeBaron-Ramos celebra la ciudadanía
Estados Unidos es como un rico estofado cuyos ingredientes trabajan juntos para producir «un aspecto fascinante, de sabor y grandeza», ya que cada uno de los ingredientes conserva su propio «forma, color y sabor».
«Debemos estrecharlo, y esta gran nación nos permite hacerlo», le dijo Denise LeBaron-Ramos a una sala del tribunal con 87 nuevos ciudadanos de Estados Unidos provenientes de 36 países diferentes.
La abogada de Kansas City, Kansas habló en una reciente ceremonia de naturalización dándole la bienvenida a quienes solicitaron la ciudadanía. El juez del tribunal del distrito de Estados Unidos James O’Hara presidió la ceremonia durante la cual los nuevos ciudadanos recitaron juntos el juramento a la bandera.
«Ser parte de la ceremonia y observar los rostros de quienes toman el juramento fue uno de mis mejores momentos», dijo LeBaron-Ramos.
Como una abogada bilingüe que se especializa en leyes de inmigración y familiares, reconoció caras familiares entre los nuevos ciudadanos que estaban tomando el juramento a la bandera. Ella dijo que fue muy satisfactorio poder ayudar a sus clientes a navegar el laberinto legal que está en el sistema de inmigración y obtener lo que querían. «Es mucho muy gratificante cuando funciona», dijo LeBaron-Ramos.
Cuando no funciona, cuando el resultado desilusiona al cliente, LeBaron-Ramos dice que ella insiste en entregar las malas noticias ella misma de manera delicada y atenta para suavizar el golpe.
“Yo no envío al personal de la oficina ni se los digo por teléfono. Y cuando les doy las malas noticias, les doy los siguientes pasos. Si no hay ninguno en su caso, les presento sus opciones”, dijo ella.
LeBaron-Ramos es la única abogada jurídica en LeBaron-Ramos Law Office, LLC. Ella tiene licencia para ejercer en Kansas y es miembro de la Asociación de Abogados Americanos de Inmigración y las asociaciones de abogados en Kansas, área metropolitana de Kansas City, el condado Johnson y el condado Wyandotte.
La elección presidencial de este año así como la Corte Federal que están riñendo la expansión de la Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia (DACA) y el lanzamiento de la Acción Diferida para Padres de Americanos (DAPA) del Presidente Obama, ha impulsado a LeBaron-Ramos a tomar acción. Ella está utilizando todos los medios, incluyendo los medios sociales para motivar a quienes son elegibles para que se registren y voten.
“La mayoría de mis clientes están mucho muy preocupados y temerosos de que sus esperanzas de salir de las sombras serán aplastadas, dependiendo de quién gane la elección”, dijo ella.
Y ella urge a todos los que preguntan sobre DACA o DAPA a que continúen evitando problemas, seguir estudiando y mantener sus empleos para proteger su elegibilidad para los programas.
LeBaron-Ramos nació y creció en Galeana, un pueblo rural en Chihuahua, México, una de 9 hermanos. Sus padres y hermanos aún están allí. Cada verano, LeBaron-Ramos envía a Galeana a su hijo Fabián, de 12 años de edad. para que ayude en el rancho de la familia, encabezado por su padre, Joel LeBaron uno de las personas más influyentes en la vida de Le-Baron Ramos.
“Él me enseñó a encontrar lo que quería hacer y sobresalir en ello”, dijo ella.
Otra persona influyente es una jueza en el Tribunal de Apelaciones de Kansas, Karen Arnold-Burger. Como intérprete de la Corte, Le-Baron Ramos la veía regularmente.
“Cuando le dije que quería entrar a la facultad de derecho, ella me motivó”, dijo la abogada. “Ella me impulsó para tomar el examen LSAT”.
LeBaron-Ramos acredita a su esposo Luis y a su hijo por animarla a obtener su doctorado en derecho de la facultad de derecho Wahsburn. Ahora que logró su meta, ella trabaja más de 50 horas a la semana para ayudar a sus clientes a que hagan realidad sus objetivos jurídicos.
“Quiero que la gente se sienta bienvenida. Soy sincera con ellos, y hago todo lo que sea necesario para obtener el mejor resultado para ellos”, dijo ella.

Denise LeBaron-Ramos celebrates citizenship

America is like a rich stew whose uniquely flavored ingredients work together to produce “an amazing look, taste and greatness,” with each of the ingredients preserving its own “shape, color and taste.”
“We should embrace it. And this great nation allows us to do just that,” Denise LeBaron-Ramos told a courtroom of 87 new U.S. citizens hailing from 36 different countries.
The Kansas City, Kan., attorney was speaking at a recent naturalization ceremony welcoming those petitioning for citizenship. U.S. District Court of Kansas Judge James O’Hara presided over the ceremony during which the new citizens recited together the Pledge of Allegiance.
“Being part of the ceremony and watching the faces of those taking the oath was one of my best moments,” LeBaron-Ramos said.
A bilingual attorney who specializes in immigration law and family law, she recognized familiar faces among the new citizens taking the oath of allegiance. It’s rewarding, she said, to be able to help her clients navigate the legal maze that is the immigration system and get what they want.
“It’s very, very gratifying when it works,” LeBaron-Ramos said.
When it doesn’t, when the outcome disappoints a client, LeBaron-Ramos says she insists on delivering the bad news herself in person gently and empathetically to soften the blow.
“I don’t delegate it to office staff or tell them over the phone,” she said. “And when I give them bad news, I give next steps. If there aren’t any in their case, I lay out their options.”
LeBaron-Ramos is the sole practitioner of the law practice, LeBaron-Ramos Law Office, LLC. She’s licensed to practice in Kansas and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the bar associations of Kansas, Metropolitan Kansas City, Johnson County and Wyandotte County.
This year’s presidential election as well as the federal court wrangling over President Obama’s expansion of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and launch of Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) has prompted LeBaron-Ramos to take action. She’s using every means, including social media to encourage those who are eligible to register and vote.
“Most of my clients are very, very worried and scared that their hopes of coming out of the shadows could be crushed, depending on who wins the election,” she said.
And she urges everyone who inquires about DACA or DAPA to continue staying out of trouble, staying in school and keeping their jobs to safeguard their eligibility for the programs.
LeBaron-Ramos was born and raised in Galeana, a rural hamlet in Chihuahua, Mexico, one of nine children. Her parents and siblings are still there. Every summer, LeBaron-Ramos sends Fabian, her now-12-year-old son to Galeana to help out on the family ranch, headed by her father, Joel LeBaron, one of the most influential people in LeBaron-Ramos’s life.
“He taught me to find what I wanted to do and excel at it,” she said.
Another influential individual is a judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals, Karen Arnold-Burger. As a court interpreter, LeBaron-Ramos encountered her regularly.
“When I told her I wanted to go to law school, she encouraged me,” the attorney said. “She pushed me to take the LSAT.”
LeBaron-Ramos credits her husband, Luis and their son for cheering her on as she earned a juris doctor degree from Washburn Law School. Now having achieved her goal, she logs upwards of 50 hours a week working to help her clients realize their legal goals.
“I want people to feel welcome,” she said, “I’m honest with them, and I do whatever is necessary to get the best outcome for them.”
