Kansas City celebra los días festivos

Está empezando a parecerse mucho…a las fiestas navideñas! La temporada navideña está en pleno apogeo, y qué mejor manera de celebrar con tu familia y amigos que con eventos divertidos en Kansas City.
En el Día de Acción de Gracias, las multitudes llenarán las calles para presenciar la 87 ceremonia anual de iluminación de la Plaza. El pre-evento será de 5 p.m. a 6 p.m. con regalos y actuaciones de KC A Capella, cantantes de Cámara de la escuela secundaria de Blue Valley y de la 2da compañía del ballet de KC, según el sitio web de la Plaza. Luego, de 6 p.m. a 7 p.m., Jack Sock, medallista olímpico, “girará el interruptor” para iluminar la Plaza. Las luces se mantendrán hasta mediados de enero.
La ceremonia de la iluminación del Árbol de Navidad del Alcalde en el Crown Center es otra tradición que no se debe faltar. La ceremonia se llevará a cabo este viernes, 25 de noviembre a las 5:30 p.m. y es gratis para el público. El alcalde Sly James y los campeones de patinaje olímpico Meryl Davis y Charlie White estarán a la mano para iluminar el árbol de 100 pies de altura.
Para los fans del clásico navideño “The Grinch,” Kansas City llevará a Whoville al City Market. Todos tendrán la oportunidad de visitar el Grinch y Cindy Lou en el centro de la plaza en el mercado de la ciudad. Los días de fiesta de Whoville funcionan de 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. sábados y domingos, diciembre 10-11 y diciembre 17-18.
Zona Rosa se ha convertido rápidamente en un lugar muy conocida por sus tradiciones de vacaciones, incluyendo la exhibición de las auroras boreales y visitas de la princesa de hadas. Personas de todas las edades pueden disfrutar de estas tradiciones especiales hasta el 1 de diciembre.
Union Station regresa con su décimosexto tren anual del día de fiesta del sur de Kansas City con el Papá Noel y sus duendes. Este evento comenzará del 16 al 20 de diciembre. Los huéspedes pueden decirle a Santa lo que quieren para la Navidad, así como recorrer el tren de forma gratuita.
Otros divertidos eventos de invierno incluyen el patinaje sobre hielo en la terraza del Crown Center Ice o en el Ice Park Place en Leawood, Kan. Los esquiadores y snowboarders pueden disfrutar de algún tiempo en las pistas de Snow Creek en Weston, Mo.

Kansas City celebrates the holidays

It’s beginning to look a lot like…the holidays! The holiday season is in full swing, and what better way to celebrate them with family and friends than with fun-filled Kansas City events.
    On Thanksgiving, crowds will fill the streets to witness the 87th Annual Plaza Lighting Ceremony. The pre-show will be from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. with giveaways and performances by KC A Capella, Blue Valley High School Chamber Singers and the KC Ballet 2nd Company, according the Plaza’s website. Then, from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m., Jack Sock, Olympic medalist, will “flip the switch” to illuminate the Plaza. The lights will remain through mid-January.
    The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Crown Center is another tradition that shouldn’t be missed. The ceremony will happen this Friday, November 25 at 5:30 p.m. and is free to the public. Mayor Sly James and Olympic skating champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White will be on hand to illumine the 100-foot-tall tree.
    For fans of the holiday classic “The Grinch,” Kansas City will bring Whoville to the City Market. Everyone will have the chance to visit the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who in the center of City Market Square. The Whoville Holidays runs from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, December 10-11 and December 17-18.  
Zona Rosa has quickly become well-known for its holiday traditions, including the Northern Lights display and visits from the Fairy Princess. People of all ages can enjoy these special traditions until December 1.    
Union Station is bringing back its 16th Annual Kansas City Southern Holiday Express train with Santa Claus and his elves. This event will start on December 16-20. Guests can tell Santa what they want for Christmas as well as tour the train free of cost.
    Other fun winter holiday events include ice skating at the Crown Center Ice Terrace or at the Ice at Park Place in Leawood, Kan. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy some time on the slopes at Snow Creek in Weston, Mo.
