The recent behavior of some spring breakers in Cancun, Mexico, has drawn criticism.
A group of U.S. students were aboard The Pirate Ship, a well-known attraction in Cancun that people ride to see an entertainment show. Suddenly, the group of spring breakers started a chant: “Build that wall!”
Others passengers began complaining, but the chanting didn’t stop. An article published recently El Yucatan Times told the story of a husband and wife who were aboard the ship and were annoyed by the students’ behavior.
“Today I was with Suly, my wife (who is a native of Mexico), watching an entertainment show off the coast of Cancun aboard a boat – and at the end of the show, a flock of Americans (maybe under the influence of alcohol or maybe not) began to sing the infamous “Build that wall!” chant louder and louder,” Anaximandro Amable was quoted by El Yucatan Times as saying.
Suly Amable said she didn’t know how to react. She criticized the behavior, saying it was surreal.
On social media, many people have described the incident as an example of “discriminatory speech” that has been promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump.
