A finales de abril durante una visita a Europa, el ministro mexicano de Relaciones Exteriores, Luis Videgaray, dijo que México estaba listo para renegociar NAFTA, que es el acuerdo comercial entre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá.
El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump tiene sus propias opiniones sobre renegociar NAFTA – y las compartió durante una entrevista reciente en el programa de televisión “Face the Nation” de CBS.
Trump dijo que “mataría” a NAFTA si no puede renegociarlo. Mientras era entrevistado, Trump también habló de las conversaciones que ha tenido con el presidente mexicano Enrique Peña Nieto y el primer ministro canadiense Justin Trudeau. Aunque Peña Nieto y Trudeau le han pedido a Trump no acabar con el acuerdo comercial debido a las consecuencias que pueda tener, Trump piensa que NAFTA no es justo para todos los implicados.
El 27 de abril, la presidencia mexicana entregó una declaración diciendo que Peña Nieto ha conversado con Trudeau -y los dos están de acuerdo en tener un contacto estrecho para asegurar que sea exitoso el proceso de modernizar el NAFTA.
Hasta el momento de prensa, no se sabe si tomaría lugar la renegociación de NAFTA.

Trump pledges to terminate NAFTA if he can’t renegotiate it

In late April, during a visit to Europe, Mexican Minister of Foreign Relations Luis Videgaray said Mexico was ready to renegotiate NAFTA, the trade agreement among Mexico, the United States and Canada.
U.S. President Donald Trump has his own thoughts about renegotiating NAFTA – and he shared them during a recent interview on the CBS TV show “Face the Nation.”
Trump said he would “kill” NAFTA if he couldn’t renegotiate it. While interviewed, Trump also discussed the conversations he has had with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto (Peña Nieto in Spanish) and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Although Pena Nieto and Trudeau have asked Trump to not terminate the commerce agreement because of the consequences it might have, Trump thinks NAFTA isn’t fair for all involved.
On April 27, the Mexican presidency released a statement saying that Pena Nieto had talked with Trudeau – and the two agreed to be in close contact to ensure the process of modernizing NAFTA is successful.
At press time, it was unknown when the NAFTA renegotiation would take place.
