Summer vacation is here for Kansas City area schoolchildren.
If you want to have some quality time with your children and enjoy some fun area family activities, here’s a list of suggestions:
*Kansas City (Mo.) Public Library summer reading programs: The library offers free summer reading programs for youngsters and adults. Check with the branch nearest you and see what programs it offers. Most programs have themes that are entertaining for all the family.
*Kaleidoscope at Crown Center: Kaleidoscope offers free workshops for children. And Kaleidoscope is a place where children can be creative, have fun and develop their ideas. For hours and other information, visit http://hallmarkkaleidoscope.com.
*Ice Cream Train: At 7 p.m. every Friday in July and August, the Belton, Grandview and Kansas City Railroad provides a train ride on a 1920s passenger coach through the Old Towne section of Belton, Mo., and passes by some other local sites. The train leaves at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August. The fare is $12 on Fridays, and $10 on Saturdays and Sundays. *Theatre in the Park: If you want to enjoy excellent plays and movies along with the beautiful outdoors, try the Theatre in the Park. Opening night begins at 8:30 p.m. June 8. The outdoor amphitheater where Theatre in the Park productions are staged is located at 7710 Renner Road in Shawnee, Kan.
