Welcome tourists! In this edition, we will talk about the biggest city in Latin America, and one of the biggest and most populated in the world. We talk about the capital of our neighboring country Mexico, Mexico City. Its metropolitan area has more than 21 million citizens. The exact date of the founding of the city is unknown, but it is believed that it was in 1325 by the Aztec Empire, site that was called Mexico-Tenochtitlan and that in 1521 it was taken by the Spaniards, at the start of the colonial era.
Originally much of what is now Mexico City was occupied by a system of lakes, which were gradually dried by the decision of the Spanish. As well as diverted many of the rivers that flowed into these lakes with the intention of avoiding large floods. Currently, there is an extensive drainage system that allows diverting all that water to different lakes near the region and to the Gulf of Mexico. At the time of the conquest of the Spanish, the capital of New Spain returned, which remained even after the Independence of Mexico. And as the years went by, the city grew little by little and the surrounding towns became part of what Mexico City is now. That’s why many of the neighborhoods of the city have their own identity, traditions, and architecture.
Round flights from Kansas to Mexico City have an average price of $ 300 and most of them have 1 layover. If we talk about transportation, in the city I advise you to use the metro and the Metrobus, the RTP trucks or the bicycle rental. Most of the public transportation has an average price of $.25 per trip and they will drive you through practically the whole city. If you want to have more control of your time and your mobility you can rent a car. Just keep in mind that being in a big city means you could be stuck in traffic for a few hours if you go cross from one side to another. As for accommodation, you can find good three-star hotels starting at $50 per night and hostels from $10. If we talk about food, there are a lot of gourmet cuisine restaurants, but if you like more typical food of the region I advise you try the traditional tamales, the taquitos de canasta, quesadillas with and without cheese, the pambazos and many more meals that you can find almost in each corner, where you will have a full meal with dessert included for $10.
Now, you should know that to discover this huge city it takes at least a week and to only visit a part of the great attractions. That’s why I advice you to visit some of the must-see attractions:
Historic Downtown is located right where the ancient Aztec city Tenochtitlan was located. The point from which the growth of the city began and which has a few vestiges and extraordinary monuments build almost 7 centuries ago. Since 1987, it is Heritage of humanity by the UNESCO. Here you can find the second largest square in the world, the Plaza de la Constitución known as El Zócalo, where important moments in the history of the country have been held. But which is also a place where people gather for the most important celebrations and for its main manifestations, as well as for massive and cultural concerts. Within the square is the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City, it is one of the most outstanding works of the Hispano-American architecture. It took little more than 250 years to finish being built, the greatest painters, architects, sculptors, decorators, and artists of the era of the viceroyalty were part of the construction. The archaeological site of the Templo Mayor de Tenochtitlan is also located here, although there are only a few vestiges of what was the great Aztec city. But you can find a museum dedicated to just telling the history and the architectural pieces that existed inside the city.
Palace of Fine Arts is an enclosure considered the most important in the manifestation of the arts in all Mexico and also one of the most renowned opera houses in the world. It is also located within the Historic Downtown. Inside there are stages and rooms for the practice and exhibition of works of art. The admission fee is $3.
Castle of Chapultepec is the only Royal Castle in America and was built in 1788 with the purpose of being the summer house of the Viceroy Bernardo de Gálvez. Today, became the National Museum of History. The price of admission is $3, plus you can take advantage of the Chapultepec Forest, where the castle is built and which is one of the largest of its kind in the whole continent.
For security, I strongly advise you to check how secure the area where you plan to stay and circulate on foot is. As in each megalopolis, there are areas with high levels of crime, by avoiding these sites you can fully enjoy your vacation.

Conoce Ciudad de México
Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la ciudad más grande de todo América Latina, y una de las más grandes y densamente pobladas del mundo, nos referimos a la capital de nuestro país vecino México, si estamos hablando de la Ciudad de México. Su área metropolitana cuenta con más de 21 millones de habitantes, se desconoce la fecha exacta de la fundación de la ciudad, pero se cree que fue en 1325 por el Imperio Azteca, sitio al que le llamaron México-Tenochtitlan y que en 1521 fue tomado por los españoles dando inicio a la época virreinal.
Originalmente gran parte de lo que hoy es Ciudad de México fue ocupado por un sistema de lagos, los cuales fueron siendo secados poco a poco por decisión de los españoles, así como desviados muchos de los ríos que desembocaban en estos mismos lagos con la intención de evitar grandes inundaciones. Actualmente se cuenta con un amplio sistema de desagüe que permite desviar toda esa agua a distintos lagos cercanos a la región además de mandada al golfo de México. Al momento de la conquista de los españoles la volvieron la capital de la Nueva España, situación que permaneció aún después de la Independencia de México. Y conforme fueron pasando los años la ciudad fue creciendo poco a poco y los pueblos aledaños fueron siendo parte de lo que ahora es la Ciudad de México, es por esto que muchos de los barrios de la ciudad tienen su propia identidad, tradiciones y arquitectura.
Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Ciudad de México tienen un costo promedio de $300 y la gran mayoria tienen 1 escala. Si hablamos de movilidad, les recomiendo que utilicen el metro de la ciudad, así como el metrobús, los camiones RTP o bien la renta de bicicletas, la mayoría de los transportes tienen un costo promedio de $.25 por viaje y te conducen por prácticamente toda la ciudad, o bien si quieres tener mayor control de tus tiempos y de tu movilidad puedes rentar un automóvil, sólo ten en consideración que por ser una gran ciudad podrías quedarte atrapado en medio del tráfico por algunas horas si es que vas de un extremo a otro de la ciudad. En cuanto a hospedaje podrás encontrar buenos hoteles tres estrellas por toda la ciudad por un costo de $50 por noche y hostales desde los $10. Si hablamos de comida, hay una gran cantidad de restaurantes de alta cocina, pero si te gusta más la comida típica de la región te recomiendo pruebes las tradicionales tortas de tamal, los taquitos de canasta, las quesadillas con y sin queso, los pambazos y muchas más comidas que podrás encontrarlas casi en cada esquina, en donde podrás tener una comida completa con postre incluido por $10.
Ahora bien, cabe aclarar que para conocer esta enorme ciudad se necesita de mínimo una semana para conocer una parte de los grandes atractivos de la ciudad, aquí te aconsejo visites algunos de los imperdibles:
Centro Histórico, está situado justo en donde se encontraba la antigua ciudad azteca Tenochtitlan, punto desde el que partió el crecimiento de la ciudad y que cuenta con algunos cuantos vestigios y monumentos extraordinarios que hablan de hace casi 7 siglos, por lo que desde 1987 es Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. Aquí podrás encontrar la segunda plaza más grande del mundo, la Plaza de la Constitución informalmente conocida como El Zócalo, punto en donde se han llevado a cabo importantes puntos de historia del país, pero que además es un sitio donde la gente se reúne para las celebraciones más importantes y para sus principales manifestaciones, así como para conciertos masivos y culturales, dentro de la plaza se encuentra la Catedral Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México, es una de las obras más sobresalientes de la arquitectura hispanoamericana, y que tardó poco más de 250 años en terminar de ser construida, los más grandes pintores, arquitectos, escultores, decoradores y artistas de la época del virreinato formaron parte de la construcción de la misma. El sitio arqueológico del Templo Mayor de Tenochtitlan también se encuentra aquí, aunque sólo quedan algunos vestigios de lo que fue la gran ciudad azteca, pero podrás encontrar un museo dedicado a justamente a contar la historia y las piezas arquitectónicas que existían dentro de la ciudad.
Palacio de Bellas Artes, es un recinto considerado el más importante en la manifestación de las artes en todo México y además una de las casas de ópera más renombradas del mundo. También se encuentra dentro del Centro Histórico. En su interior se encuentran escenarios y salas para la práctica y exposición de obras de arte. El costo de entrada es de $3
Castillo de Chapultepec, es el único Castillo Real en América y fue construido en 1788 con el fin de ser la casa de verano del virrey Bernardo de Gálvez, actualmente es Museo Nacional de Historia. El costo de entrada es de $3, además puedes aprovechar para conocer el Bosque de Chapultepec, sitio en donde está construido el castillo y que es uno de los más grandes en su tipo de todo el continente.
Por seguridad te recomiendo ampliamente que revises qué tan segura es la delegación en donde piensas hospedarte y circular a pie, como en cada megalópolis existen zonas con grandes niveles de delincuencia, con evitar estos sitios podrás disfrutar al máximo tus vacaciones.
