Welcome tourists! In this edition we will talk about the capital of the country, the city where President Donald Trump resides and which is also the headquarters of the Department of Defense of the United States, we are talking about Washington D.C.
Officially called the Washington District of Columbia, the city was named to honor the first president of the United States, George Washington. While the name of the district is in honor of the first explorer to arrive in America, Christopher Columbus (Christopher Columbus). The population of the district is less than 700 thousand citizens, while the metropolitan area of Washington D.C. has almost 5 million people.
The city was fully planned to be the capital of the country after the War of Independence, founded by George Washington in 1790. Its streets are full of history, so if you are interested in learning more about the past and the country’s heritage is undoubtedly the ideal place to visit.
Round flights from Kansas to Washington D.C. have an average price of $200 and you can find many direct flights options. In terms of mobility, the most practical form is the metro (Metrorail) and bus (Metrobus). In addition to being one of the safest and cleanest in the country, the metro service runs from 5 am to 12 am on weekdays and from 7 am to 3 am on weekends. It is clear that a car rental is also a good option since there is not a lot of traffic as in other major cities. Staying at a 2-star hotel has an average price of $60 per night while a 3-star is around $100 per night. If we talk about food, it is possible to find a great variety of inexpensive restaurants to enjoy a delicious meal without spending more than $12, with drinks included.
The vast majority of the most important places to visit in the capital are located in the same area, so a weekend will be enough to see most of the relevant sites. I’ll tell you about some of them:
The Capitol is the building that houses the two chambers of the Congress of the United States. You can participate in any of the free guided tours that are organized daily. On your visit you will see the large art gallery, the hammer used by President George Washington during the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the building, a 13 minute film about the history of the Capitol and the importance of the work done in it for the life of all citizens and the great sculptures of the National Statuary Hall. Request your free pass in advance so you do not miss this historic and cultural tour. It is located on the National Mall.
The Washington Monument, also known as the Great White Obelisk, is located at the western end of the National Mall. It was the tallest structure in the world in 1884 but only lasted until 1889 when the Eiffel Tower was built. This monument has been part of a large number of films, Forrest Gump among them.
The Lincoln Memorial, also located on National Mall, is a memorial to honor President Abraham Lincoln. The building has the shape of a Doric Greek temple and inside it has a large sculpture of Abraham Lincoln sitting and has inscriptions of two of his well-known speeches.
The National Museum of American History has 3 floors of an exhibition, 2 floors of offices and souvenirs and food store in the basement. It is also located within the National Mall area. The ground floor details the history of transportation in the U.S., from 1876 until today. The first floor shows the inauguration dresses of all the first ladies and the gigantic flag that was used in the War of 1812. The third floor has peculiar objects of all the presidents of the U.S., from the uniform that George Washington used in the War of Independence to the saxophone of Bill Clinton.
The National Museum of Natural History of the United States has a collection of more than 125 million specimens of plants, animals, fossils, rocks, meteorites, minerals and human cultural objects. You can access for free.
The White House is the official residence of the president of the United States, besides being its main work center. It was designed by George Washington and created between 1790 and 1800. You can request your guided tour for free. But you must do it in advance since about 5,000 visits are received daily. It is advisable to do it 3 months in advance, inside you may take pictures without flash.

Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la capital del país, ciudad donde reside el presidente Donald Trump y que además es sede del Departamento de Defensa de los Estados Unidos, por supuesto que hablamos de Washington D.C.
Oficialmente denominado Washington Distrito de Columbia, el nombre de la ciudad es en honor al primer presidente de los EE.UU. George Washington, mientras que el nombre del distrito es en honor al primer explorador en llegar América Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón). La población del distrito es menor a los 700 mil habitantes, mientras que el área metropolitana de Washington D.C. Cuenta con casi 5 millones de habitantes.
La ciudad fue plenamente planificada para ser la capital del país tiempo después de la Guerra de Independencia, su fundación por parte de George Washington fue en 1790. Sus calles rebosan de historia, por lo que si tienes interés en aprender más sobre el pasado y el patrimonio del país sin duda es el lugar ideal para visitar.

Si de comida hablamos es posible encontrar gran variedad de restaurantes bastante económicos para poder disfrutar de una rica comida sin gastar más de $12 con bebida incluida.
La gran mayoría de los lugares más importantes para conocer en la capital están concentrados en la misma zona, por lo que tu viaje puede ser de un fin de semana y con eso ver la mayor parte de los sitios más relevantes, de los cuales te cuento a continuación algunos de ellos:
El Capitolio, es el edificio que alberga las dos cámaras del Congreso de los Estados Unidos. Podrás participar en alguna de las visitas guiadas gratuitas que se organizan a diario, en su visita podrás ver la gran galería de arte con la que cuenta, el mazo que usó el presidente George Washington durante la ceremonia de la colocación de la primera piedra del edificio, una película de 13 minutos sobre la historia del Capitolio y sobre la importancia que lleva la labor hecha en el para la vida de todos los ciudadanos, maravíllate con las grandes esculturas del National Statuary Hall. Solicita tu pase gratuito con anticipación para que no te pierdas de este histórico y cultural recorrido. Se encuentra en el National Mall, también conocido como la Explanada Nacional.
El Monumento a Washington, también conocido como el Gran Obelisco Blanco, se encuentra localizado al extremo oeste del National Mall, fue la estructura más alta del mundo en 1884 pero sólo le duró el gusto hasta 1889 que se construyó la Torre Eiffel. Este monumento a sido parte de gran cantidad de películas, entre las que destacan la película de Forrest Gump.
El Monumento a Lincoln, también situado en National Mall, es un monumento conmemorativo para honrar al presidente Abraham Lincoln. El edificio tiene la forma de un templo griego dórico y dentro cuenta con una gran escultura de Abraham Lincoln sentado y cuenta con inscripciones de dos de sus conocidos discursos.

También se encuentra dentro de la zona del National Mall. La planta baja detalla la historia del transporte en los EE.UU. Desde 1876 a la fecha. El primer piso muestra los vestidos de inauguración de las primeras damas que han existido. La bandera gigantesca que se utilizó en la Guerra de 1812. El tercer piso tiene objetos peculiares de todos los presidentes de los EE.UU., desde el uniforme de George Washington en la Guerra de Independencia o el saxofón de Bill Clinton.

La Casa Blanca, es la residencia oficial del presidente de los Estados Unidos, además de ser su principal centro de trabajos, fue ideada por George Washington y creada entre 1790 y 1800. Podrás solicitar tu visita guiada de manera gratuita, eso si, la debes hacer con bastante antelación ya que se reciben alrededor de 5,000 visitas diarias, se aconseja hacerla con 3 meses de anticipación, dentro podrás tomar fotografías sin flash dentro de la misma.
