Kids and parents alike can enjoy a new sprayground at Gillham Park.
The place features a combination of sprayers, bubblers and custom water elements, a shade structure, synthetic turf berm, benches and tables. An opening ceremony took place on Aug. 9 for the Kansas City, Missouri, park. Dozens of kids and their parents came to enjoy the first splash of the Midtown area’s newest sprayground.
Mark McHenry, city parks director, started the brief ceremony by thanking people for attending and introducing David Mecklenburg, a member of Kansas City’s park board, to give a quick speech. Mecklenburg said the board is excited about this project, especially with this year’s theme for the board being “Where KC comes to play.”
“(It) brings a big joy to the members of the park board to see something like this developed – and with the theme this year, this is an ideal time to open this,” he said.
McHenry then gave a brief speech thanking everyone involved in making the park happen. After that, the kids, dressed in their swim gear, got behind the ribbon and cut it to officially open the sprayground.
The $740,000 sprayground was funded largely by the Public Improvement Advisory Committee. The rest of the money came from private funds from an anonymous donor.
The park will be open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily through Sept. 3. Admission is free.
Nuevo parque de riego abre en Gillham Park
Niños y adultos pueden disfrutar un nuevo parque de riego en Gillham Park.
El lugar ofrece una combinación de rociadores, bubblers y elementos de agua personalizados, una estructura que ofrece sombra, berma de césped sintético, bancos y mesas. Una ceremonia de inauguración ocurrió el 9 de agosto para el parque ubicado en Kansas City, Missouri. Una docena de niños y sus padres vinieron a disfrutar del primer chapuzón del parque de riego más nuevo de la zona de Midtown.
Mark McHenry, director de parques de la ciudad, inició la breve ceremonia agradeciendo a las personas por asistir y presentando a David Mecklenburg, miembro de la junta de parques de Kansas City, a dar un discurso rápido. Mecklenburg dijo que la junta está emocionada por este proyecto, especialmente considerando que el tema de este año es “Donde KC viene a jugar”.
“(Le) trae un gran alegría a los miembros de la junta de parques el ver algo así desarrollado, y con el tema de este año es el momento ideal para abrir este lugar”, dijo.
McHenry dio también un breve discurso agradeciendo a todos los involucrados en el proyecto. Después de eso, los niños, vestidos con trajes de baño, se pusieron detrás de la cinta que cortaron momentos después para abrir el parque de riego oficialmente.
El parque de riego de $740,000 fue financiado, en su mayoría, por el Comité Asesor de Mejoramiento Público. El resto del dinero vino de fondos privados a través de un donante anónimo.
El parque estará abierto todos los días de 10 a.m. a 7 p.m. hasta el 3 de septiembre. La admisión es libre.
