A Kansas City area organization is helping people who did not finish college return and earn a degree.
KC Degrees provides area adults with personalized, consistent and reliable college success services to help them earn a college degree or high-quality certificate. Alex Villagran, KC Degrees bilingual college success navigator, said the organization not only helps people get back to college, but also offers support throughout their time there and until they graduate.
“We try to be as comprehensive about it as we can,” he said.
KC Degrees partners with local colleges and organizations to offer support and connect students with a support network. Now, through Villagran, KC Degrees is focusing on reaching more Hispanics.
“The main goal is to spread the word and get as many people as we can,” Villagran said.
To achieve those goals, Villagran said KC Degrees is looking at putting more materials and ads in Spanish and using social media. It also is working to become more familiar with GED and English as a Second Language programs in the area, he said.
KC Degrees’ services are free and personalized. After the initial intake form, people get assigned a college navigator to help them through the process.
As part of the effort to spread the word, Villagran said KC Degrees personnel are available to come and speak wherever they are needed.

KC Degrees ayuda a adultos a regresar a la universidad
Una organización del área de Kansas City está ayudando a las personas que no terminaron la universidad a regresar y obtener un título.
KC Degrees brinda a los adultos del área servicios de éxito universitario personalizados, consistentes y confiables para ayudarlos a obtener un título universitario o un certificado de alta calidad. Alex Villagrán, navegante de éxito universitario bilingüe, dijo que la organización no sólo ayuda a las personas a regresar a la universidad, sino que también ofrece apoyo durante su tiempo allí y hasta que se gradúan.
“Tratamos de ser lo más completos posible”, dijo.
KC Degrees se asocia con organizaciones y universidades locales para ofrecer apoyo y conectar a los estudiantes con una red de apoyo. Ahora, a través de Villagrán, KC Degrees se está enfocando en llegar a más hispanos.
“El objetivo principal es correr la voz y atraer a la mayor cantidad de personas que podamos”, dijo Villagrán.
Para lograr estos objetivos, Villagrán dijo que KC Degrees está considerando poner más materiales y anuncios en español, y también usar las redes sociales. También está trabajando para familiarizarse con los programas de GED e inglés como segundo idioma en el área, dijo.
Como parte del esfuerzo por difundir el mensaje, Villagrán dijo que el personal de KC Degrees está disponible para hablar donde sea necesario.
“Si sabe de algún grupo o quiere que vengamos a hablar con las personas sobre este programa, comuníquese con nosotros”, dijo.
