Moving for immigrants involves an additional step – letting the immigration service know where you are. There are strict rules on when and how do to it – make sure you are in compliance!
For people in immigration court, you only have five days to let the court know your new address. The form to use is EOIR-33. Fill out your old address and your new address and then make a copy (or just fill out two of them). You must mail one of them to the court and one to the ICE attorneys. For immigrants with a valid status – you must update your address with USCIS within ten days of moving. The form is AR-11 and can be mailed in or done online. Either way, you can find the instructions and tools here: https://www.uscis.gov/addresschange. It is important to remember that there are two steps if you have a pending application. Your lawyer should handle this for you if you are working with one. Also, there are special procedures for U visa and VAWA applicants.
For attorneys, we also have to let the immigration know if we move our mailing address. Good thing we planned ahead and have been using a PO Box since we started the firm in 2016! Our move will not interrupt any of our pending cases as the immigration service won’t even know that we moved.
