Unified Government Public Health Department Publishes Vaccine Overview to Help Answer Questions about COVID-19 Vaccines

The Unified Government’s Public Health Department (UGPHD) recently published an overview of COVID-19 Vaccines in Wyandotte County. The mission of the UGPHD is to ensure the timely and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines within Wyandotte County in order to curb the spread of the virus and reduce the burden of death and disease on our community.
The goals of the UGPHD vaccination distribution efforts are:
*To align with vaccine distribution guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). This, in turn, helps the Department align with neighboring counties and reduce confusion around the vaccine rollout process.
*Adapt as the UGPHD received new information and guidance from the CDC or KDHE.
*Inform the community about the vaccine process and what it means for you and your loved ones.
*Collaborate with state and local agencies, and community partners, to make the vaccine rollout as smooth as possible and to help ensure that the vaccine distribution process will appropriately serve members of our community who have been most impacted by COVID-19.
This comprehensive document addresses several additional topics, such as:
*Listing organizations that are or will be providing vaccines in Wyandotte County
*Providing details of the first phase of vaccine distribution (which began in December 2020)
*Describes upcoming phases of vaccine distribution
*Provides basic information about the vaccines that are currently available and being administered in Wyandotte County
In addition, the overview has a Frequently Asked Questions section that covers questions such as:
*How will UGPHD determine eligibility for “essential workers” and “people with pre-existing conditions”?
*Where will the vaccinations sites be located in Wyandotte County?
*Are these vaccines safe?
*Should people with a history of vaccine allergic reactions get the COVID-19 vaccine?
*Knowing that COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted the African American and Latinx communities in Wyandotte County, how does that affect vaccine distribution?
