Collaborative Partnership Between the KCKFD and the American Red Cross offering FREE Live Saving Services in the Strawberry and Turtle Hill Neighborhoods in KCK
KANSAS CITY, KS – The Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD), in collaboration with the American Red Cross, is excited to announce the fourth iteration of “Sound the Alarm” on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM in the Strawberry and Turtle Hill Neighborhoods in Kansas City, Kansas.
This bi-annual event is dedicated to enhancing fire safety, awareness, and preparedness in local communities. Since the initial kick-off of the Sound the Alarm initiative in October 2023, over 506 smoke alarms have been installed across Kansas City, Kansas.
This Spring event will mobilize volunteers to canvass the Strawberry and Turtle Hill Neighborhoods with educational information and install smoke alarms in homes where needed.
“A properly installed and regularly tested smoke alarm saves lives from the wrath of unwanted fires. Research by the National Fire Protection Association reveals that smoke alarms cut fire deaths by 50%,” said KCKFD Fire Chief Dennis Rubin. “We are excited to be working with the American Red Cross to bring Sound the Alarm to the Strawberry and Turtle Hill Communities. This service is free of charge and focuses on the Fire Department’s mission of Preventing Harm. We will reach approximately 400 homes in these two neighborhoods to install smoke alarms”.

Any homeowner wishing to schedule a smoke alarm installation may contact the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department at (913) 573-5971 or text (913) 991-7002. The April 12th Sound the Alarm event is open to households in the Strawberry and Turtle Hill neighborhoods.

Call for Volunteers
Individuals and local groups interested in volunteering for the Sound the Alarm event are encouraged to join us on the day of the event at the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD) Headquarters (815 N. 6th Street, Kansas City, KS). Volunteer registration for the morning will begin at 7:45 AM and for the afternoon at 11:45 AM on Saturday, April 12, which includes training and general guidance. Volunteers can assist for the entire day or sign up for timeslots from 7:45 AM – 1:00 PM or 11:45 AM – 5:00 PM.

El Departamento de Bomberos de Kansas City, Kansas (KCKFD, por sus siglas en inglés), en colaboración con la Cruz Roja Americana, se complace en anunciar la cuarta edición de “Activa la Alarma” el sábado 12 de abril de 2025, de 8:00 a.m. a 4:30 p.m., en los vecindarios de Strawberry y Turtle Hill en Kansas City, Kansas.
Este evento bianual está dedicado a mejorar la seguridad contra incendios, la concientización y la preparación en las comunidades locales. Desde el lanzamiento de la iniciativa “Activa la Alarma” en octubre de 2023, se han instalado más de 506 detectores de humo en Kansas City, Kansas.
Este evento de primavera movilizará voluntarios para recorrer los vecindarios de Strawberry y Turtle Hill con información educativa e instalar alarmas de humo en los hogares donde sea necesario.
“Una alarma de humo correctamente instalada y revisada regularmente salva vidas de los incendios indeseados. Una investigación de la Asociación Nacional de Protección contra Incendios revela que las alarmas de humo reducen las muertes por incendios en un 50%”, declaró Dennis Rubin, Jefe de Bomberos del KCKFD. “Nos entusiasma trabajar con la Cruz Roja para llevar Activa la Alarma a las comunidades de Strawberry y Turtle Hill. Este servicio es gratuito y se centra en la misión del Departamento de Bomberos de Prevenir Daños. Llegaremos a aproximadamente 400 hogares en estos dos vecindarios para instalar alarmas de humo”.
