On April 1, St. Michael the Archangel Parish hosted its first Via Crucis.
In previous years, parishioners attended the Via Crucis at Our Lady of Unity, a parish sister to St. Michael in Kansas City, Kansas. This year, the host changed, but the idea remained the same.
Parishioner Virginia Oropeza, who organized this year’s Via Crucis, said she was happy with the reception of the event at St. Michael.
“For it being the first year, it was great, it was well-received and we already have an invitation for next year, so that we can organize with more time and we can invite more people to attend,” Oropeza said.
This year, Oropeza felt that they didn’t do enough promo on the change of location, so there were fewer people in attendance than expected. Still, there were many new people from all over attending a Via Crucis for the first time, she said. That’s a positive, according to Oropeza.
“(They) all thought it was beautiful, and that’s what we want – to share the message with others,” she said.
Oropeza has been in charge of organizing multiple events at Our Lady of Unity, including the Via Crucis for more than two decades. This year, hosting it at a new parish was special because the parishioners could spread God’s word to others.
“I feel blessed every time we do this living Via Crucis because we know we touch the hearts of many people and many more people get closer to the church, and that’s why we do this,” she said.
Now, Oropeza is preparing for the Via Crucis for Good Friday that will be hosted at Our Lady of Unity. She invites the community to attend at 11 a.m. Friday (April 7) at Our Lady of Unity, located at 2910 Strong Ave.
Primer Via Crucis en la Parroquia San Miguel Arcángel
El 1 de abril, la Parroquia San Miguel Arcángel celebró su primer Via Crucis.
En años anteriores, los feligreses asistieron al Vía Crucis en Nuestra Señora de la Unidad, una parroquia hermana de San Miguel en Kansas City, Kansas. Este año, el anfitrión cambió, pero la idea siguió siendo la misma.
La feligresa Virginia Oropeza, quien organizó el Vía Crucis de este año, dijo que estaba contenta con la recepción del evento en St. Michael.
“Por ser el primer año estuvo genial, fue bien recibido y ya tenemos invitación para el próximo año, para que nos organicemos con más tiempo y podamos invitar a más personas a asistir”, dijo.
Este año, Oropeza sintió que no hicieron suficiente promoción sobre el cambio de ubicación, por lo que asistieron menos personas de lo esperado. Aún así, había mucha gente nueva de todas partes asistiendo a un Vía Crucis por primera vez, dijo. Eso es positivo, según Oropeza.
“Todos pensaron que era hermoso, y eso es lo que queremos: compartir el mensaje con otros”, dijo.
Oropeza ha estado a cargo de la organización de múltiples eventos en Nuestra Señora de la Unidad, incluido el Vía Crucis durante más de dos décadas. Este año, celebrarlo en una nueva parroquia fue especial porque los feligreses pudieron difundir la palabra de Dios a los demás.
“Me siento bendecida cada vez que hacemos este Vía Crucis viviente porque sabemos que tocamos el corazón de muchas personas y muchas más personas se acercan a la iglesia, y por eso hacemos esto”, dijo.
Ahora, Oropeza se prepara para el Vía Crucis del Viernes Santo que tendrá lugar en Nuestra Señora de la Unidad. Ella invita a la comunidad a asistir a las 11 a. m. del viernes (7 de abril) en Our Lady of Unity, ubicada en 2910 Strong Ave.
