Recent high school graduates who are considering attending college but aren’t sure where they want to attend might think they’ll have to wait a semester – or even a year – given that most colleges and universities will begin classes in about a month.
Not necessarily.
Fortunately, there are plenty of schools where you can still apply for admission and start college this fall. But it’s important to think through your decision and act as quickly as possible.
If you’re considering attending college this fall and need help deciding where to apply, here are a few tips:
*Research institutions: Visit their official websites to learn about their programs, faculty and campus facilities. If you know people that attend a school that interests you, ask them about the institution. If there’s time, take a physical tour of the campuses that interest you. If there’s not, try taking a virtual tour.
*Evaluate academic support and opportunities: Access to academic support can enhance your learning experience. Look for schools that offer comprehensive academic support. Check for resources such as libraries, tutoring services and mentorship programs.
*Evaluate financial factors: Find out about tuition costs and other expenses, such as housing. Check the school website and see if any scholarships, grants or other forms of financial aid are available. If they’re not available this year, maybe they’ll be options for next year.
*Explore university activities: Find out if the schools that interest you have clubs or societies where you can participate. Also, find out about their recreational facilities. Make sure that the schools that interest you provide environments that align with your interests and preferences.
*Seek advice: In addition to talking to current students, reach out to your parents, former high school teachers and other mentors. Ask them what they think about your options.
