The Visa Bulletin tells us how long you will have to wait in line to move forward with your immigration case. US citizen relatives such as spouses, unmarried children under 21 years old and parents do not have to worry about these lines.
Other family members have their own categories: Spouses and unmarried children under 21 years old of Legal Permanent residents are in category F2A. Unmarried children over 21 years old of Legal Permanent Residents are in category F2B. There is not a category for married children of Legal Permanent Residents.
US citizens can apply for their unmarried children over 21 years old in category F1. Their married children are in category F3. And their brothers and sisters are in category F4.
There are special categories for countries that send a lot of immigrants such as Mexico, Philippines, China and India. Then there is one category for the “Rest of the World.” The lines are longer for these countries as there are limits by category and by country.
So where are we for March 2024? The numbers have not moved for several months. Legal Permanent Residents must wait a few months to file the second step of their families’ case after filing the first step. This is most important if the family member is in the US on a tourist or other visa and wants to file for adjustment of status. The person must be in status when they file the second step – this is rather technical and very important to get good advice from a lawyer.
For the other categories, it is generally around ten years to wait for most of the world. As explained above, Mexico has a longer wait of about twenty years. It is important to check frequently as it is now time for many Mexicans to apply under 245i from 2001.

El Boletín de Visas nos dice cuánto tiempo tendrá que esperar en la fila para seguir adelante con su caso de inmigración. Los familiares de ciudadanos estadounidenses como cónyuges, hijos solteros menores de 21 años y padres no tienen que preocuparse por estas filas.
Otros miembros de la familia tienen sus propias categorías: Los cónyuges e hijos solteros menores de 21 años de residentes legales permanentes están en la categoría F2A. Los hijos solteros mayores de 21 años de Residentes Legales Permanentes se encuentran en la categoría F2B. No existe una categoría para hijos casados de Residentes Permanentes Legales.
Los ciudadanos estadounidenses pueden solicitar la categoría F1 para sus hijos solteros mayores de 21 años. Sus hijos casados están en la categoría F3. Y sus hermanos y hermanas están en la categoría F4.
Hay categorías especiales para países que envían muchos inmigrantes como México, Filipinas, China e India. Luego hay una categoría para el “Resto del mundo”. Las filas son más largas para estos países ya que hay límites por categoría y por país.
Entonces, ¿dónde estamos para marzo de 2024? Las cifras no se han movido desde hace varios meses.
