The Greater Kansas City area will soon host the Viva La Chicana Awards.
Created to highlight the strength, leadership and cultural contributions of Chicanas and organized by the Chicano Center for the Arts, the ceremony is set for April 10 at 6:00 p.m. in 2103 Lexington Ave. in Kansas City, Missouri.
“This event is about more than awards; it’s about honoring our cultural duality and recognizing the leadership of Chicana women who have broken barriers,” said Deanna Munoz (Muñoz in Spanish), Chicano Center for the Arts founder.
The women are being recognized not only for their abilities to break barriers, but also their abilities to uplift others, “especially young Chicanas still discovering their voices,” Munoz said.
This year’s honorees will be recognized in the following categories:
*Adelita Leadership Award: This honors bold, visionary leaders who rally their communities.
*Mariposa Award: This award goes to Chicanas who symbolize transformation and resilience.
*Mujer de Fuerza Award: The center gives this honor to women known for their strength and perseverance.
*Inspiracion Chicana Mentor Award: As the name suggests, this honor goes to those who guide and uplift others.
*Chicana Visionary Award: The center utilizes this award to recognize trailblazing women who dream big.
*Corazon de la Comunidad Award: Selfless community champions are recognized with this honor.
*Emerging Chicana Powerhouse Award: Dynamic rising stars are celebrated with this award.
*Icono Cultural Award: The center presents this honor to recognize those who preserve and promote cultural heritage.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the event will include music by DJ Munch, a Latino art exhibit, and food and drinks from Latino vendors.
“This is a celebration of community, culture and courage,” Munoz said. “It’s a reminder that the Chicana spirit is unstoppable.”
The event also will pay tribute to Dolores Huerta, a fighter in labor rights and social justice who has inspired generations, via reflections on her life’s work and its impact on the honorees and community.
“Her mantra reminds us of our collective strength and the possibilities that arise when we stand together,” Munoz said
The Latinx Education Collaborative (LEC) is partnering with the Chicano Center for the Arts to stage the event.
“Their unwavering dedication to fostering equitable opportunities and representation for Latinx individuals in education aligns seamlessly with the mission of the Viva La Chicana Awards,” Munoz said. “LEC has played a vital role in helping us bring this event to life by providing resources, amplifying our message and collaborating on outreach efforts.”

El área metropolitana de Kansas City pronto será la anfitriona de los Premios Viva La Chicana.
Creada para destacar la fuerza, el liderazgo y las contribuciones culturales de las chicanas y organizada por el Chicano Center for the Arts, la ceremonia está programada para el 10 de abril a las 6:00 pm en 2103 Lexington Ave. en Kansas City, Missouri.

Las homenajeadas de este año serán reconocidas en las siguientes categorías:
*Premio Adelita al Liderazgo: Este premio honra a líderes audaces y visionarios que movilizan a sus comunidades.
*Premio Mariposa: Este premio se otorga a las chicanas que simbolizan la transformación y la resiliencia.
*Premio Mujer de Fuerza: El centro otorga este honor a mujeres conocidas por su fortaleza y perseverancia.
*Premio Inspiración Chicana para Mentores: Como sugiere el nombre, este honor se otorga a quienes guían y alientan a otras.
*Premio Visionaria Chicana: El centro utiliza este premio para reconocer a mujeres pioneras que sueñan en grande.
*Premio Corazón de la Comunidad: Se reconoce con este honor a las campeonas comunitarias desinteresadas.
*Premio Potencia Chicana Emergente: Se celebra con este premio a las estrellas en ascenso dinámicas.
*Premio Icono Cultural: El centro otorga este honor para reconocer a quienes preservan y promueven el patrimonio cultural.
Además de la ceremonia de premios, el vento incluirá música por el DJ Munch, una exhibición de arte latino, y comida y bebidas de vendedores latinos.
“Esta es una celebración de la comunidad, la cultura y el coraje”, dijo Muñoz. “Es un recordatorio de que el espíritu chicano es imparable”.
El evento también rendirá homenaje a Dolores Huerta, una luchadora por los derechos laborales y la justicia social que ha inspirado a generaciones, a través de reflexiones sobre el trabajo de su vida y su impacto en los homenajeados y la comunidad.
“Su mantra nos recuerda nuestra fuerza colectiva y las posibilidades que surgen cuando nos unimos”, dijo Muñoz.
El Latinx Education Collaborative (LEC) se está asociando con el Chicano Center for the Arts para organizar el evento.
“Su dedicación inquebrantable para fomentar oportunidades equitativas y representación para las personas latinas en la educación se alinea perfectamente con la misión de los Premios Viva La Chicana”, dijo Muñoz. “LEC ha desempeñado un papel fundamental para ayudarnos a darle vida a este evento al brindar recursos, amplificar nuestro mensaje y colaborar en los esfuerzos de divulgación”.
