Kansas City welcomes Spanish version of 1 Million Cups

By Tere Siqueira

On Feb. 4, more than 60 Greater Kansas City area residents gathered for the launch of the program 1 Million Cups Kansas City en Espanol (Español in Spanish).

Hosted at 5440 W. 110th St. in Overland Park, Kansas, the bilingual event welcomed those who attended with coffee. The event also included stories of the women behind the businesses Azul Esperanza and Esquites y Elotes CDMX.

1 Million Cups Kansas City en Espanol is part of 1 Million Cups, a nationwide program built around the idea that entrepreneurship thrives when communities are connected, as the 1 Million Cups website indicates. Established by the Kansas City, Missouri-based Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the English-speaking version of the program has been active for years in the area.

As the name of program suggests, every week, two entrepreneurs present their ideas, challenges and goals to audience members while having coffee. Attendees are invited to ask questions, offer feedback and network afterward.

The Spanish-language version of the program takes place at 8:30 a.m. every Wednesday, with presentations starting at 9. The events are free and open to entrepreneurs, community leaders and those who are simply curious about the area’s startup scene.
