La diseñadora Isabel Marant está siendo acusada de plagiar diseños que fueron creados en el estado mexicano de Oaxaca.
De acuerdo con la revista Vogue, los diseños que fueron parte de la colección 2015 primavera-verano de Marant fueron plagiados de la cultura Mixe. Marant ha sido acusada de exigir la reclamación de derechos de autor por los diseños, pero el gobierno francés no lo ha confirmado.
Con respecto a la acusación, un vocero de Marant comentó: “Isabel Marant formalmente niega haber enviado -o haber pedido a alguna autoridad francesa -ningún documento al gobierno de Santa María Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca para evitar que los habitantes de la municipalidad puedan vender sus diseños indígenas. Por el contrario, Isabel Marant está luchando ante el tribunal de distrito de París para aclarar las cosas”.
Además, Marant ha declarado que los diseños no son suyos y no está reclamando ningún tipo de propiedad intelectual.
Sin embargo, Marant está bajo ataque en México. En la cuenta de Twitter de @Estado20, las mujeres de Oaxaca declararon recientemente que le darían seguimiento a una acción legal contra Marant por plagio.
Esta no es la primera vez que Marant es acusada de plagio. Ella ha estado acusada de plagiar un diseño de una marca deportiva.
French designer accused of plagiarizing Mexican designs

Designer Isabel Marant is being accused of plagiarizing designs that were created in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.
According to Vogue magazine, the designs that were part of Marant’s spring/summer 2015 collection were plagiarized from the Mixe culture. Marant has been accused of demanding the claim to copyright for the designs, but the French government hasn’t confirmed that.
Regarding the accusation, Marant’s spokesman commented: “Isabel Marant formally denies having sent – or asked any French authority to send or issue – any document to the authority of Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca, to prevent the inhabitants of the municipality from selling their indigenous designs. On the contrary, Isabel Marant is fighting before the district court of Paris to set the record straight.”
In addition, Marant has stated the designs aren’t hers and isn’t claiming them as any kind of intellectual property.
Nevertheless, Marant is under fire in Mexico. On the Twitter account of @Estado20, women from Oaxaca stated recently that they would pursue legal action against Marant for plagiarism.
This isn’t the first time Marant has been accused of plagiarism. She’s been accused of plagiarizing a design from a sports brand.
