Government official’s NPR interview goes viral
A recent interview that White House chief of staff John Kelly gave to National Public Radio (NPR) has gone viral on social media.
During the interview, Kelly stated that undocumented immigrants don’t have the skills to assimilate into U.S. society. He based his argument on the idea that undocumented immigrants aren’t well-educated.
“Let me step back and tell you that the vast majority of the people that move illegally into United States are not bad people,” Kelly told NPR. “They’re not criminals. They’re not (gangbangers in) MS-13. But they’re also not people that would easily assimilate into the United States into our modern society.”
Kelly pointed out that undocumented immigrants generally don’t speak English and most of them come from rural communities in their home countries. In addition, he said that most of them “don’t integrate well” into U.S. society because “they don’t have skills.”
“They’re not bad people,” Kelly said. “They’re coming here for a reason. And I sympathize with the reason. But the laws are the laws.”
Kelly’s comments have drawn criticism from such Americans as Missouri resident Marcela Luna.
“I think Kelly is wrong,” Luna commented. “He is stereotyping and categorizing all undocumented immigrants that have arrived … (in) this nation in … (search) of a better life. I’ve met people who were teachers, lawyers in their home countries – and due to the lack of opportunities, they came to the United States, where they are working as dishwashers. I think, before he makes … (those) kinds of statements, he should be informed.”

Una entrevista reciente que la Casa Blanca jefe de personal John Kelly dio a la National Public Radio (NPR) se ha vuelto viral en las redes sociales.
Durante la entrevista, Kelly declaró que los inmigrantes indocumentados no tienen las habilidades para integrarse en la sociedad de EE.UU. Él basó su argumento en la idea de que los inmigrantes indocumentados no están bien educados.
“Déjenme dar un paso atrás y decirles que la gran mayoría de las personas que se mudan ilegalmente a Estados Unidos no son malas personas”, dijo Kelly a NPR. “No son criminales. No son pandilleros en MS-13. Pero tampoco son personas que se adaptan fácilmente a nuestra sociedad moderna en Estados Unidos”.
Kelly señaló que los inmigrantes indocumentados generalmente no hablan inglés y la mayoría provienen de las comunidades rurales en sus países de origen. Además, dijo que la mayoría de ellos “no se integra bien” en la sociedad estadounidense porque “no tienen habilidades”.

Los comentarios de Kelly han generado críticas de los estadounidenses tales como la residente de Missouri, Marcela Luna.
“Creo que Kelly está equivocado”, comentó Luna. “Él está estereotipando y categorizando a todos los inmigrantes indocumentados que han llegado … a esta nación en búsqueda de una vida mejor. Conozco a personas que eran maestros, abogados en sus países de origen, y debido a la falta de oportunidades, llegaron a Estados Unidos, donde trabajan como lavaplatos.
