NCLR une a sus afiliados y la comunidad en KCMO
El Consejo Nacional de La Raza (NCLR) espera unir a sus afiliados y al público en general en un solo lugar en su próxima conferencia anual.
La conferencia de 4 días se llevará a cabo del viernes 11 al domingo 14 de julio en el Kansas City Convention Center, ubicado en 301 W. 13th St. en Kansas City, Mo. De acuerdo con Enrique Chaurand, vicepresidente de mercadeo integrado y eventos de NCLR, la conferencia está diseñada para que sus afiliados se unan para hablar sobre temas tales como educación y salud. (Actualmente entre los afiliados de Kansas City están Guadalupe Centers Inc., El Centro Inc., Hispanic Economic Development Corp. y Turner House.) Sin embargo, la conferencia también está abierta para el público.
La conferencia llega a Kansas City en un momento de crecimiento y desarrollo para la comunidad latina del área y se espera que contribuya al crecimiento económico del área, lo cual se espera que supere $7.1 millones.
“Escogimos KC por dos razones: una, porque no hemos estado aquí por mucho tiempo y dos, porque tenemos fabulosos afiliados, queríamos unir a la gente en el medio oeste porque KC tiene historia y tiene una comunidad latina bien establecida”, dijo Chaurand. “Ser de KC, traer la conferencia es algo grande. Estoy muy orgulloso de ser de Kansas City, Missouri y Janet Murguía (nuestra presidenta y directora ejecutiva) está muy orgullosa de ser de Kansas. Para nosotros significa regresar a casa”.
La conferencia ofrecerá 50 talleres para cubrir temas tales como inmigración, administración sin fines de lucro y tecnología. También tendrá una exposición familiar gratis (ver la historia relacionada). La expo abrirá el sábado y domingo (julio 11 y 12) de las 10 30 a.m. – 6 p.m., y el domingo 13 de julio de 10 a.m. a 3 p.m.
“Nuestra comunidad debe aprovechar esta exposición familiar. Tendremos regalos y mucho entretenimiento. El ex jugador de fútbol mexicano Luis Hernández, jugadores de Sporting KC y de los Chiefs estarán presentes. Definitivamente queremos que nuestras familias vengan y lo aprovechen”.
Entre los conferencistas estarán los candidatos presidenciales demócratas Hillary Clinton y Martín O´Malley (lea historia relacionada.)
“Les ofrecemos a todos los candidatos, sin importar su partido político, venir y hablar ante la comunidad latina”, dijo Chaurand. “Les decimos, “vengan y hablen con nosotros… sobre por qué usted debe ser presidente” – y Hillary Clinton y Martín O´Malley aceptaron la oportunidad (este año)”.

The National Council La Raza (NCLR) hopes to bring its affiliates and the general public together in one place at its upcoming annual conference.
Scheduled to begin on Friday (July 11), the four-day conference will run through July 14 at the Kansas City Convention Center, located at 301 W. 13th St. in Kansas City, Mo. According to Enrique Chaurand, NCLR vice 
president of integrated marketing and events, the conference is designed for its affiliates to come together to discuss issues such as education and health. (Current Kansas City affiliates include the Guadalupe Centers Inc., El Centro Inc., the Hispanic Economic Development Corp. and Turner House.) However, the conference also is open to the public.
The conference arrives in Kansas City at a time of growth and development for the area’s Latino community. And it’s expected to contribute to the area’s economic growth. Its economic impact is expected to top $7.1 million.
“We picked KC for two main reasons: (one), because we haven’t been here for a long time – and (two), because we have great affiliates, we wanted to bring people to the Midwest because KC has history and it has a well-established Latino community,” Chaurand said. “(Being from KC), bringing the conference here is a big deal. I’m very proud to be from Kansas City, Mo., and Janet Murguia (our president and CEO) is very proud to be from Kansas. It is like a homecoming for us.”
The conference will offer 50 workshops that cover such issues as immigration, non-for-profit management and technology. It also will have a free family expo (see related story). The expo will run 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (July 11 and 12), and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on July 13.
“Our community should take advantage of this family expo,” Chaurand said. “We will have free giveaways and a bunch of entertainment. Former Mexican (soccer) player Luis Hernandez, Sporting KC and the KC Chiefs players will be there. We definitely want our families to come and take advantage of it.”
Speakers for the conference include Democrat presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Martin O’Malley (see related story).
“We offer all candidates, regardless (of) their political party, to come and address the Latino community,” Chaurand said. “We tell them, ‘Come and talk to us … (about) why you should be president’ – and Hillary Clinton and Martin O’Malley accepted the opportunity (this year).”
