El Dr. Carlos Palmeri recordó 40 años atrás. Carlos y María Palmeri empezaron su camino en Estados Unidos en 1975 cuando viajaron a hacer su residencia en práctica familiar en Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“Nosotros vinimos de Argentina hace 40 años,” dijo. “Nos recibimos de médicos, nos casamos, y nos vinimos. Todo al mismo tiempo.”
Palmeri, quien actualmente vive en Kansas City con su esposa, es dueño de dos reconocidas instalaciones de práctica familiar desde hace 1980 y enseña como profesor adjunto en la universidad de Kansas Medical Center.
“Siempre hemos enseñado como profesores adjuntos,” dijo Palmeri. “Al principio enseñábamos en Truman Medical Center a médicos que estaban haciendo la residencia en práctica privada. Continuamos enseñando y ahora los estudiantes de universidades vienen a hacer su rotación aquí.”
Palmeri dice que su objetivo es prevenir envés de curar, ellos quieren enseñar y darle a los pacientes todos los elementos necesarios e información para tener una sana y mejor vida.
“Aparte de la atención médica,” dijo él. “Ofrecemos rayos x, laboratorios en el consultorio, estudio de huesos para osteoporosis, hacemos electrocardiogramas, exámenes pulmonares… hacemos todo en la oficina; lo cual ayuda al paciente que no tiene que ir de lugar a lugar a sacarse los exámenes. Siempre eso le ha gustado mucho a los pacientes y por eso lo hemos mantenido.”
Palmeri Family Medicine actualmente tiene dos centros; uno en Shawnee, Kan., y un segundo en Kansas City Kan. Y lo que empezó con dos doctores se ha expandido a siete proveedores los cuales cinco de ellos hablan español.
Ellos también ofrecen medicina personalizada, en la que cada paciente tiene uno o dos médicos dándoles el mejor servicio. Al mismo tiempo, Palmeri Family Medicine está abierto todos los días del año y muchos de los empleados son miembros de la comunidad latina.
“La gente de Kansas City han sido muy familiares con nosotros,” dijo Palmeri. “Nos han tratado muy bien desde un principio a pesar que uno tiene acento y todo pero han respondido siempre muy bien. Tenemos pacientes que nos han seguido por los 35 años y traen sus hijos y sus nietos y siguen viniendo por eso hemos podido crecer.”
Palmeri continúa dando medicina preventiva a la comunidad después de 35 años y dice tener toda la energía para crecer y mejorar.

Dr. Carlos Palmeri took a leap of faith 40 years ago. Carlos and Maria Palmeri started their journey in the United States in 1975 when they came to do their residency in private practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“We came from Argentina 40 years ago,” he said. “We graduated from medical school, we got married, and then we came. Everything at the same time.”
Palmeri, who currently lives in Kansas City with his wife, owns two recognized family practice facilities since 1980 and teach as an adjunct professor in the University of Kansas Medical Center.
“We’ve always taught as adjunct professors,” he said. “We taught at the beginning in the Truman Medical Center to doctors who were studying private practice. We continued to teach and we keep having university students coming here to do their internships.”
Palmeri says his goal in private practice is to prevent instead of heal; they want to teach and provide the patient all the necessary elements and information to have a better and healthier life.
He also explained he specializes on hypertension and diabetes and his wife treats most of gynecology and feminine part of medicine, however, both of them are strong in preventive medicine.
“Besides the medical attention,” he said. “We offer digital x-ray, labs in the office, study of the bones for osteoporosis, we do electrocardiograms, pulmonary respiratory test… we do everything in the office, which our patients don’t have to go from one place to another to do the test. That’s something they’ve always liked and that’s why we keep doing it.”
Palmeri Family Medicine currently has 2 centers; one in Shawnee Kan. and a second one in Kansas City Kan. and what started with two doctors have grown to seven health providers who five of them speak Spanish.
They also offer a personalized medicine therefore the patient will see one or two physicians providing the best service. At the same time, they are open all year long and many of the employees and members are part of the Latino community.
“The people from Kansas City have been very nice to us,” said Palmeri. “From the beginning, even though we have accent and all that but they have always responded very friendly. We have patients who have followed us for the 35 years and they bring their children and grandchildren. That’s how we’ve been able to grow.”
Palmeri continues to provide preventive medicine to the community and after 35 years he says they have all the energy to improve and grow.
