Después de más de 50 años de conflicto armado el gobierno colombiano y el grupo guerrillero Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias (FARC) acordaron firmar la Paz antes del 23 de marzo del 2016.
“Este es un logro muy grande,” dijo el presidente colombiano Juan Manuel Santos después de las negociaciones del 24 de septiembre en Habana, Cuba. “Reconozco y aprecio los pasos que las FARC han dado hoy. Hoy nos estamos moviendo en la misma dirección.”
El acuerdo es el resultado de más de tres años de negociaciones. Las negociaciones comenzaron el 26 de agosto de 2012 en Habana, Cuba en donde varios temas se discutieron. El 27 de mayo de 2013 las delegaciones llegaron a un acuerdo agrario. Durante las negociaciones del 24 de septiembre las delegaciones del gobierno y las FARC fijaron una fecha en la que se irá a firmar la Paz.
El acuerdo cubre diferentes temas relacionados con víctimas y castigo a quienes cometieron crímenes humanitarios.
“He venido a anunciar a los colombianos y al mundo entero, pero en especial a las victimas que hemos llegado a un acuerdo en crear una jurisdicción especial de paz,” dijo Santos. “Vamos a asegurarnos que los crímenes cometidos tendrán castigo.”
Según la delegación del gobierno los crímenes serán estudiados y juzgados; quienes confiesen y acepten sus faltas tendrán castigos de cinco a ocho años y quienes no los acepten tendrán cárcel hasta 20 años.
Según el presidente Santos las FARC tienen 60 días para desmovilizarse, entregar las armas y convertirse en un partido político después que el tratado se firme.
Los colombianos deben votar para aceptar el acuerdo.

After roughly 50 years of armed conflict, the Colombian government and the guerilla group the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) have agreed to sign a peace treaty by March 23, 2016.
“This is a major achievement,” Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said following the latest negotiations on Sept. 24 in Havana Cuba. “I recognize and appreciate the step that the FARC … (has taken) today. Today, we move in the same direction.”
The agreement is the result of more than three years of negotiations. Negotiations started on Aug. 26, 2012, in Havana, Cuba, where various topics were discussed. On May 27, 2013, the parties reached agreements on agricultural-related issues. During the Sept. 24 negotiations, the government and FARC delegations set a treaty signing date.
The peace commitment covers such topics as victimization and punishing those who’ve committed crimes against humanity.
“I have come today to announce (to) Colombia (and) the entire world, but especially to tell the victims that we have agreed to create a special jurisdiction for peace,” Santos said. “We will ensure that the crimes committed will be punished.”
According to the government delegation, the crimes will be studied and judged. Perpetrators who confess will face a minimum of between five and eight years of incarceration. Those who don’t confess to their offenses will face up to 20 years in jail.
According to President Santos, the FARC will have 60 days to disarm and become a political party in Colombia after the peace treaty is signed.
Colombians must vote to accept the agreement.
