Una “burbuja” en el Océano Atlántico tiene alarmados y confundidos a algunos científicos.
CNN News reportó recientemente que la burbuja azul y morada ha aparecido cerca de Groenlandia y ha causado varios cambios en la temperatura del océano.
“La superficie del océano es mucho más fría de lo normal -y de hecho (la temperatura ha alcanzado) niveles fríos récord en algunas localidades” declaró CNN.
La burbuja fue descubierta hace unos años y ha crecido de tamaño. Los científicos están tratando de terminar que lo está causando, pero aún no han hecho una determinación.
De acuerdo con The Washington Post, las investigaciones recientes en el cambio climático dan indicios de que la fuente de la burbuja es el derretimiento de Groenlandia, la cual está perdiendo más de 100,000 millones de toneladas de hielo cada año. El derretimiento puede tener serias consecuencias, reportó CNN.
“La pérdida de… la circulación oceánica normal podría causar cambios drásticos en los patrones del clima -y la continua pérdida de hielo en Groenlandia puede llevar a un aumento continuo en los niveles del mar, amenazando a ciudades costeras alrededor del mundo”, declaró CNN.
La burbuja y los patrones climáticos relacionados tienen preocupadas a algunas personas sobre el futuro del planeta.
“Pienso que es muy confuso, pero es culpa nuestra “, dijo Teresa Fernández, residente de Overland Park, Kansas. “No cuidamos a nuestro planeta, y esto es lo que estamos pagando (por no protegerlo). Esto muy preocupada… sobre cómo puede afectar esto a nuestros hijos. Pienso que debemos ser responsables, reciclar y vigilar los cambios posibles en el clima”.

Atlantic “blob” might cause natural disasters

A “blob” in the Atlantic Ocean has some scientists alarmed and confused.
CNN News recently reported that the blue and purple blob has appeared near Greenland and has caused several changes in the ocean’s temperature.
“The ocean’s surface is much cooler than normal – and in fact, (the temperature has reached) record cold (levels) in some locations,” CNN stated.
The blob was discovered a few years ago and has grown. Scientists are trying to determine what’s causing it, but haven’t made a determination.
According to The Washington Post, recent research on climate change suggested the source of the blob is the melting of Greenland, which is losing more than 100 billion tons of ice each year. The melting might have serious consequences, CNN suggested.
“The loss of … normal ocean circulation could cause drastic shifts in weather patterns – and (the) continued loss of ice in Greenland will lead to the continued rise in sea levels, threatening coastal cities around the globe,” CNN stated.
The blob and related weather patterns have some people concerned about the planet’s future.
“I think it is very confusing, but it is our fault,” said Teresa Fernandez, an Overland Park, Kan., resident. “We don’t take care of our planet, and this is what we are paying (for not doing that it). I’m very concerned … (about) how this may affect our children. I think we should be responsible, recycle and watch for possible changes in the weather.”
