* Gratis (o casi gratis):
* Económico ($ – $ $)

* Agradable y lujoso ($$ – $$$)

Celebrating Mother’s Day in KC: Activities for all budgets

Commentary by Melissa Arroyo
Whether you plan on celebrating your mother, the mother of your children or other mother figure in your life on May 10 or May 14, you might not be sure about what you can do in the Kansas City area to make it extra special.
Here are some ideas that are free (or almost free), affordable, and nice and fancy:

*Free (or almost free):
– Breakfast in bed: Let her know that you planned to cook her favorite breakfast and bring it to her while she watches her favorite movie. While you’re at it, why not clean the kitchen, too?
– Pack a picnic: If weather permits, what else is better than enjoying her favorite meal (created by you, of course) and taking her to the park or the Nelson-Atkins lawn for a picnic?
– Kansas City Zoo: Mothers will receive free admission from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 14. Try going early to beat the crowd!

*Affordable ($-$$)
– Sunday brunch: La Bodega offers various Spanish dishes to enjoy and mimosas. You also can try taking her to brunch at the Kemper Museum of Art and view some artwork afterward.
– Movies: Take your mom for a glass of wine or dinner, while she enjoys watching a movie in a living room-style auditorium at Cinetopia in Overland Park, Kan.

*Nice and fancy ($$-$$$)
– Brazilian steak: Surprise your mom with a nice dinner at Fogo de Chão on the Plaza or at Porto Do Sul in Overland Park. Be sure to book your reservation ahead of time.
– Bluestem: Located in Kansas City, Mo.’s Westport area, Bluestem has various menu options and wine selections. It’ll be a special night! A tea and pastries also will be offered on May 13 with a reservation.

Don’t forget: Showing your appreciation in any way will make it special for her – and although mothers should be celebrated every day, a small gesture here and there can go a long way.
Happy Mother’s Day! Congratulations to all mothers out there!
