Seeking mental health treatment is challenging for the uninsured.
Fortunately, there are many facilities in the Kansas City area that provide free or reduced cost services. Listed below are a few local options:
*Community Mental Health Centers: The centers provide treatment to those with or without health insurance. However, patients must attend the community mental health center in the area where they live. For example, the Wyandot Center serves those in Wyandotte County, Kan. Many mental health centers have bilingual therapists, case workers and doctors on staff. For a list of centers, visit www.mentalhealthkc.org.
*The Mattie Rhodes Center: Also based on income, this center provides counseling, support groups and medical services to Latinos. For assistance call, (816) 471-2536 in Kansas City, Mo.’s Westside neighborhood or (816) 241-3780 in the Northeast area.
