Roberto Tapia is visiting the Kansas City area.
After performing on Dec. 1 in Wichita, Kan., the singer will perform on Dec. 2 in Kansas City. During a recent interview with Dos Mundos, Tapia discussed his upcoming Kansas City show, his career and his new album, “Esto es solo el comienzo” (“This Is Only the Beginning”).
Dos Mundos: You are one of the most important musicians … (in) banda music. Tell us a little about playing this kind of music.
Roberto Tapia: Thanks to God, I’ve been doing really … (well). I have worked really hard the last 10 years in order to get (to) an important place in … Mexican regional music…. Thanks to the hard work of me and all my colleagues, … banda has grown very much. Also, thanks to the people that have supported us. You can see the impact on other cultures of not only the regional music, but all Latin music in general.
DM: You recently dropped your new album. Tell us how this album is different from the others.
RT: On this album, I wanted a fresh start. I left all … I’ve done in the past. That’s why I chose the title “Esto es solo el comienzo.” I also wanted to set new goals. The album … (is) 100 percent banda music, but I added some guitar sounds. In addition, I collaborated on the songwriting process with Anthony Medina and Giovani Ayala.
DM: Where did you … (get) the inspiration to add this new guitar sound?
RT: Well, it’s because (of) the boom of this sound. A lot of … (acts) were using guitar sounds, including the group Miguel y Miguel and the singer Ariel Caracho. The people are loving the sound, so that’s where I got the inspiration, obviously, without stopping … (from doing) banda music, just adding the sound. And thanks to God, the people are liking it.
DM: Is there any artist that you would like to collaborate with in the future?
RT: I would love to work with Julion Alvarez, Tucanes de Tijuanas and with Tigres del Norte. Those are some of the artists … I really look up to. In other genres, I have already worked with Enrique Iglesias and Prince Royce. Actually, I’m open to working with artists in other genres, but I won’t be turning to reggaeton any time soon. I want to keep my banda style.
DM: You recently worked on the competition show “Gran Oportunidad.” How was that experience?
RT: This is my second time working on a show like this. I worked two seasons on “La Voz Kids,” coaching the kids. There, you needed to be really careful with what you … (told) the kids. On the other hand, on “Gran Oportunidad,” you can be more open at the time of judging the performers. In addition, it was amazing to work with Alexis Valdes, Alicia Machado and Noel Torres. I had a great time.
DM: Send a message to your fans in KC.
RT: First, I want to thank you for always supporting me. I will be waiting for you … (at) both shows. I haven’t performed in a long time in Kansas, so both shows are going to be a great. Después de presentarse el 1 de diciembre en Wichita, Kansas, el cantante se presentará el 2 de diciembre en Kansas City. Durante una reciente entrevista con Dos Mundos, Tapia discutió su próximo show en Kansas City, su carrera y su nuevo álbum, “Esto es solo el comienzo.”
Dos Mundos: Eres uno de los músicos más importantes en la música de banda. Cuéntanos un poco sobre ¿Cómo es tocar este tipo de música?
Roberto Tapia: Gracias a Dios, me ha ido realmente bien. He trabajado muy duro los últimos 10 años para conseguir un lugar importante en la música regional mexicana …. Gracias al arduo trabajo de mi parte y de todos mis colegas, la banda ha crecido mucho. También, gracias a las personas que nos han apoyado. Puedes ver el gran impacto en otras culturas no sólo de la música regional, sino de toda la música latina en general.
DM: Recientemente lanzaste tu nuevo álbum. Cuéntanos ¿Cómo este álbum es diferente de los demás?
RT: En este álbum, quería un nuevo comienzo. Dejé todo lo que he hecho en el pasado. Es por eso que elegí el título “Esto es solo el comienzo.” También quería establecer nuevos objetivos. El álbum es 100% música de banda, pero agregué algunos sonidos de guitarra. Además, colaboré en el proceso de composición con Anthony Medina y Giovani Ayala.
DM: ¿De dónde sacaste la inspiración para agregar este nuevo sonido de guitarra?
RT: Bueno, proviene del boom de este sonido. Una gran cantidad de artistas usaban sonidos de guitarra, incluyendo el grupo Miguel y Miguel y el cantante Ariel Caracho. A la gente le encanta el sonido, así que de ahí obtuve la inspiración. Obviamente sin dejar de hacer música de banda, solamente agregando el sonido. Y gracias a Dios, a la gente le está gustando.
DM: ¿Hay algún artista con el que te gustaría colaborar en el futuro?
RT: Me encantaría trabajar con Julión Alvarez, los Tucanes de Tijuana y con los Tigres del Norte, estos son algunos de los artistas que admiro. En cuanto a otros géneros, ya he trabajado con Enrique Iglesias y Prince Royce. En realidad, estoy abierto a trabajar con artistas de otros géneros, pero no busco cambiarme al reggaeton. Quiero mantener mi estilo de banda.
DM: Recientemente trabajaste en el programa de concursos “Gran Oportunidad”. ¿Cómo fue esa experiencia?
RT: Esta es la segunda vez que trabajo en un programa como este. Trabajé dos temporadas en “La Voz Kids”, entrenando a los niños. Ahí, necesitabas ser muy cuidadoso con lo que les decías a los niños. Por otro lado, en “Gran Oportunidad,” puede ser más abierto a la hora de juzgar a los artistas. Además, fue increíble trabajar con Alexis Valdés, Alicia Machado y Noel Torres. Me la pase muy bien.

RT: Primero, quiero agradecerte por siempre apoyarme. Los estaré esperando en los dos shows. No me he presentado en Kansas en mucho tiempo, así que ambos shows
