Kansas and Missouri prepping for primary elections

Analysis by Eulogio JP
Dems, Republicans using primaries for different goals

It’s about time for Missouri and Kansas to hold their primary elections.
Primary elections are held for registered voters to select the candidates they believe should represent their political party in the general elections. Missouri and Kansas will each hold their primaries in August, with the winners of the primaries advancing to general elections in November.
In Missouri, residents have until July 11 to register. In Kansas, residents may register until July 17.
America’s two major political parties, the Democrats and Republicans, hope the August primaries in Missouri, Kansas and several other states will help them accomplish several goals. In the case of the Democratic Party, one goal is to help define the party’s direction. Since Hillary Clinton’s defeat in the 2016 presidential election, party officials, officeholders and candidates have clashed over the party’s direction.
The Democrats also hope to use the primary season to identify how their party will attempt to take back the GOP-controlled Congress. Democrats have gained momentum by winning a U.S. Senate seat in Alabama for the first time in 30 years. In addition, a record number of Republican congressional retirements will make reclaiming Congress possible.
The Republican Party, meanwhile, will use the primaries to help them keep their majority in Congress intact. However, it might be difficult for them to achieve that goal. President Trump will try to make sure the GOP-controlled Congress stays the same by endorsing or issuing statements of support for Republican candidates in the primary and then the general elections. However, his public image is deemed so negative by many politicians and voters that candidates aren’t sure if they’ll embrace Trump or keep him at arm’s length.
