How to cope with your divorce

Commentary by Chara

Divorce is one of the hardest parts of life to handle.
People who get divorced must deal with some intense emotions, including depression and grief. Although it can take a long time to heal, this difficult period of life is something that can be overcome.
If you’re going through a divorce, try the following tips to help you go on with your life:
*Be positive: Going through a season of grief after a divorce is normal. But it shouldn’t keep you from thinking positive thoughts. To help you stay positive, try to find new activities and reach out to your loved ones. Keeping your mind occupied will help you to see your life differently – and boost your mood.
*Take care of yourself: If you find your interest waning in the activities you typically enjoy, try to encourage yourself to do those activities anyway. And continue to take some time to relax, exercise and hang out with loved ones to help you deal with your situation and stay motivated.
*Share your feelings with your loved ones: Loved ones play an important role when it comes to a divorce. Their support will help you get through this difficult time. Remember, they’re there to listen to you, give hugs and provide advice when you need those things. So reach out to them. You’ll feel relieved when you do.
*Seek professional help: Sometimes, therapy is expensive. However, therapy will help you to deal with your many conflicting emotions, because your therapist will help you focus on the problems you want to solve and guide you in coping with your emotions. Moreover, a good therapist will listen to you and bring relief during this difficult period of your life. So if you’re worried about the cost of therapy, see it as an investment in yourself instead.
*Let your emotions flow: Divorce is painful. But holding in your emotions will prove even more painful to you over time. Don’t punish yourself and think that getting emotional is wrong. Be as emotional as you need to be. It’ll help you get through this difficult time and get back to your normal life.
