Welcome tourists! In this edition, we will talk about the closest capital to the South Pole of the American continent, which for years is considered by several social studies as the best city to live across Latin America. The city was founded in 1726, just when the first settlers lived on this site. The city has about 1 million and a half residents, while its metropolitan area has almost 2 million residents.
The capital of Uruguay is considered the best city in all of South America due to its high quality of life. Its citizens have salaries much higher than those of other cities of the same hierarchy, they also offer great opportunities for national and foreigners looking to open businesses. The old architecture has stayed on very good conditions and their increasingly broad modern architecture uses a lot of green spaces. Its beaches and the beautiful Rio de la Plata also has one of the most important international airports in South America what allows to be a city of easy access for all.
Round flights from Kansas to Montevideo have an average price of $1,200 and most have 2 layovers. The best way to move around the city is on foot. Although the city is constantly growing, the most beautiful and important points of the city are relatively close to each other. Uber is also an option, which is cheaper than local taxis or some omnibus that takes a lot of time. Accommodation in Montevideo is relatively cheap compared to other major cities in South America. You can find 3-star hotels with rooms for $40 per night and 5-star hotels with rooms for $120.
When it comes to food, Uruguay stands out for being a country with excellent quality meat. Most of the dishes have meat as the main ingredient. Do not forget to try beef steaks or the chivitos which are a luncheon with ham, mozzarella cheese, tomato, egg, lettuce, and mayonnaise. Do not forget to take the traditional mate, an herbal tea that is common among all Uruguayans and Argentines. You can find a full meal with dessert included for about $18, but you always can find more affordable prices in fast food restaurants.
Now, the places you should not miss:
Rambla is the avenue that crosses the entire city just next to the Río de la Plata. With a 30 km length, where you can enjoy three of the most beautiful, famous and beautiful beaches of the city: Ramírez beach, Pocitos beach, and Malvin beach. Without a doubt a beautiful place to go and marvel at the beauty of its sunsets. You can walk it either on foot or by bicycle.
Parque Rodo is the most famous park in the city and is located a few minutes from downtown. In this beautiful green area, you will find a small lake and many people enjoying the place by studying, doing picnics and exercising. Enjoy the nearby Ramírez beach, visit the Summer Theater and go to a small amusement park, all located over there.
The historic downtown is known as the Old City, undoubtedly one of the main sites of interest for all tourists. It houses a very small space a large number of buildings from the colonial era as well as art galleries, museums, restaurants, and a quite peculiar bohemian atmosphere.
You can visit Puerta de la Ciudadela, which is the entrance to the old wall that surrounded the city to avoid the attacks of the indigenous people of the region in the 18th century. You can also visit the Solís Theater, which is the most important artistic scene in Uruguay, inaugurated in 1856 and with a capacity for 1,500 people. You can receive a guided tour from Tuesday to Sunday for only $1. You should also take the opportunity to visit the Puerto Market, a place where you should undoubtedly enjoy its wide range of restaurants with the most typical food of the country. Also visit the beautiful Palacio Salvo, which is a sister building of Palacio Barolo that is located in Buenos Aires. Both buildings were built by the same architect trying to demonstrate the brotherhood between both cities and both countries. For several years it was known as the tallest building across South America.
The Centenario Stadium is undoubtedly the most important sports venue in Uruguay. It hosted the first football world championship in 1930, which also makes it one of the oldest in the entire American continent. In 1983 FIFA declared it a World Football Historical Monument, there are currently tours of its facilities and the museum dedicated to the history of this sport in Uruguay. If you enjoy this sport, you should not miss it and if you are lucky you can enjoy a match at the Uruguayan national team.

Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la capital más cercana al polo sur del continente americano, que además desde hace años es considerada por varios estudios sociales como la mejor ciudad para vivir de todo latinoamérica, por supuesto nos referimos a Montevideo, Uruguay. La ciudad se considera que fue fundada en 1726, justo cuando los primeros pobladores se asentaron en este sitio, la ciudad cuenta con cerca de 1 millón y medio de habitantes, mientras que su zona metropolitana cuenta con casi 2 millones de habitantes.
La capital de Uruguay es considerada por muchos como la mejor ciudad de todo sudamérica debido a su gran calidad de vida, teniendo salarios muy superiores a los de otras ciudades de la misma jerarquía, también teniendo grandes oportunidades de apertura de negocios para nacionales como para extranjeros, también contando con arquitectura antigua en muy buenas condiciones y con una cada vez más amplia arquitectura moderna que cuida de los espacios verdes, de sus playas y del hermoso Río de la Plata, además cuenta con uno de los aeropuertos internacionales más importantes de todo sudamérica lo que permite ser una ciudad de fácil acceso para todos.
Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Montevideo tienen un costo promedio de $1,200 y en su mayoría cuentan con 2 escalas. La mejor manera de desplazarse dentro de la ciudad sin duda es a pie, aunque la ciudad está en constante crecimiento los puntos más bellos e importantes de la ciudad se encuentran relativamente cerca unos de otros, también está la opción de Uber que es más económica que la de los taxis locales o bien tomar algún omnibus que tiene la desventaja de tardar bastante tiempo de uno a otro. El hospedaje en Montevideo es relativamente económico comparado con el de otras grandes ciudades de sudamérica, podrás encontrar hoteles 3 estrellas con habitaciones a $40 por noche y hoteles 5 estrellas con habitaciones por $120. Si hablamos de comida sin duda Uruguay se destaca por ser un país con carne de excelente calidad, por lo que en la mayoría de sus platillos vas a encontrar carne como ingrediente principal, no te olvides de probar los asados de algún corte vacuno, los chivitos que son un lonche de lomo con jamón, queso mozzarella, jitomate, huevo, lechuga y mayonesa, para tomar no olvides tomar el tradicional mate, una infusión de hierbas que es común entre todos los uruguayos y argentinos. El precio de una comida completa con postre incluído lo podrás encontrar por unos $18, pero como siempre podrás encontrar precios más accesibles en restaurantes de comida rápida.
Ahora lo que queda por saber es qué lugares no deberás perderte: Rambla, se trata de una avenida que atraviesa toda la ciudad justo a lado del Río de la Plata, con un largo de casi 30km en los que podrás disfrutar de la playa Ramírez, la playa Pocitos, la playa Malvin, 3 de las playas más famosas y bellas de la ciudad. Sin duda un bellísimo lugar para recorrer y maravillarte con la bella de sus atardeceres. La puedes recorrer ya sea a pie o bien en bicicleta.
Parque Rodo, es el parque más famoso de la ciudad y se encuentra a pocos minutos del centro. En esta bella área verde podrás encontrar un pequeño lago y a mucha gente disfrutando del lugar para estudiar, hacer picnics, hacer ejercicio, disfrutar de la cercana playa Ramírez, visitar el Teatro de Verano y acudir a un pequeño parque de diversiones que se encuentra ahí junto.
Ciudad vieja, también conocida como el casco histórico de la ciudad es sin duda uno de los principales sitios de interés por todos los turistas, ya que aquí alberga en muy poco espacio una amplia cantidad de edificios de la época colonial además de galerías de arte, museos, restaurantes y una atmósfera bohemia bastante peculiar. Aquí podrás visitar la Puerta de la Ciudadela que es la entrada de la antigua muralla que rodeaba a la ciudad para evitar los ataques de los indígenas de la región en el siglo XVIII. También podrás visitar el Teatro Solís, que es el escenario artístico más importante de Uruguay, inaugurado en 1856 y que tiene capacidad para 1,500 personas, podrás recibir una visita guiada de martes a domingo por tan solo $1. Aquí también deberás aprovechar para visitar el Mercado del Puerto, sitio en el que sin duda deberás disfrutar de su amplia extensión de restaurantes con la comida más típica del país, será difícil decidirte por alguno de ellos. También visita el hermoso Palacio Salvo, que es un edificio hermano de Palacio Barolo que se encuentra en Buenos Aires, ambos edificios fueron construidos por el mismo arquitecto intentando demostrar la hermandad entre ambas ciudades y ambos países, fue por varios años el edificio más alto de todo sudamérica.
Estadio Centenario, es sin duda el escenario deportivo más importante de todo Uruguay, sede del primer mundial de fútbol en 1930, lo que además lo hace uno de los más antiguos de todo el contienente americano. En 1983 la FIFA lo declaró Monumento Histórico del Fútbol Mundial, actualmente hay recorridos por sus instalaciones y por el museo dedicado a la historia de este deporte en Uruguay. Si gozas de este deporte no debes perdertelo y si tienes suerte podrás disfrutar de un partido como local de la selección uruguaya.
