On Sunday (May 5), President Trump announced his nomination of Mark Morgan to lead the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
Morgan served during the Obama administration as Border Patrol chief. According to news reports, Trump wants Morgan because he believes Morgan will enforce a tougher immigration policy.
“I am pleased to inform all of those that believe in a strong, fair and sound Immigration Policy that Mark Morgan will be joining the Trump Administration as the head of our hard-working men and women of ICE,” Trump tweeted. “Mark is a true believer and American Patriot. He will do a great job!”
Morgan has become known for supporting Trump’s immigration initiatives. For example, he supports building a wall to divide the Mexico-U.S. border.
Kevin McAleenan, acting secretary of Homeland Security, also has issued a statement supporting Morgan’s nomination.
“Mark Morgan is a career civil servant that has served his country for decades in the United States Marine Corps, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Border Patrol,” McAleenan stated. “His record of service is needed to address the crisis at the border, and support the men and women of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The depth of his experience will be an asset to the department, and I look forward to working with him.”
To make the appointment official, Morgan needs approval from the Senate.

Morgan es nombrado líder de ICE
El domingo (5 de mayo), el presidente Trump anunció el nombramiento de Mark Morgan como director de la Agencia de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de los Estados Unidos (ICE, por sus siglas en inglés).
Morgan sirvió durante el gobierno de Obama como jefe de la Policía Fronteriza. Según informes de prensa, Trump quiere a Morgan porque cree que él hará cumplir una política de inmigración más estricta.
“Me complace informar a todos aquellos que creen en una política de inmigración firme, justa y sólida que Mark Morgan se unirá al gobierno de Trump como el jefe de nuestros trabajadores y trabajadoras de ICE”, escribió Trump en Twitter. “Mark es un creyente y patriota estadounidense. ¡Hará un gran trabajo!
Morgan es conocido por apoyar las iniciativas de inmigración de Trump. Un ejemplo es su apoyo a la construcción de un muro para dividir la frontera de México-EE.UU.
Kevin McAleenan, secretario interino de Seguridad Nacional, también ha emitido una declaración apoyando el nombramiento de Morgan.
“Mark Morgan es un funcionario con una amplia carrera que ha servido a su país durante décadas con el Cuerpo de Marines de los Estados Unidos, la Oficina Federal de Investigaciones y la Policía Fronteriza de Estados Unidos”, declaró McAleenan. “Se necesita su historial de servicio para abordar la crisis en la frontera y para apoyar a los hombres y mujeres de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas. La profundidad de su experiencia será una ventaja para el departamento, y espero trabajar con él”.
Para que el nombramiento sea oficial, Morgan necesita la aprobación del Senado.
