Welcome tourists! This time we have to talk about the capital of Spain and headquarters of the most winning team of the Champions League. We are talking about Madrid, Spain. The foundation dates back to the ninth century. It has a population density of almost 3.5 million inhabitants while its metro area has more than 6.5 million people, which rank it as the third most populated city in all of the European Union.
As for wealth, it is the fourth city with the best economy in all of Europe. In addition, it is an influential cultural center since it has several museums of international reference having in its ranks four of the 100 most visited in the world.
Round-trip flights from Kansas to Madrid have an average cost of $850 and most of them have one or two layovers. The best way to get around the city is undoubtedly by foot since you will find something interesting to see and visit in every corner of it. But if you are planning on moving from one part of side of the city to the other, the best way to get around is using the subway, which is the most efficient mode of transportation in the city. Madrid has a wide range of hotels for all tastes and budgets. You can find 3-star hotels with rooms of $40 per night and 5-star hotels with rooms of $130.
Spanish food by nature is one of the most loved and appreciated worldwide, a reference for many other countries. One of the typical dishes is the Madrid stew, which is a soup with chickpeas, vegetables and meat; also the Madrid tripe, which are very similar to the Mexican menudo (which is the veal guts cooked and served in a broth). The average cost of a full meal is $18.
The places you should not miss during your next visit to the city of Madrid are:
*Puerta del Sol: one of the most famous squares in Madrid. It is the point par excellence where Madrid and tourists meet. The three most important spaces to see in this square are: the “Statue of the Bear and the Madroño,” which is the symbol of Madrid as well as its coat of arms, has a height of 4 meters and has an approximate weight of 20 tons; the “Clock of the Post Office,” which is the place where the famous bells of the Puerta del Sol are emitted every year end; and finally the “Kilometer Zero,” from which the Spanish radial roads begin and place where ever tourist should get their picture taken.
*Plaza Mayor: found only a few meters from Puerta del Sol in downtown Madrid. This square has historically been a meeting point to give announcements and civil celebrations. It has several plaques commemorating historical places and symbols of great value. The statue of Felipe III, former Spanish king, is also found here, as is the Bakery House, which is the oldest building in the entire area since it was built in 1590. During the month of December, the square is filled with stalls of Christmas items, costumes, joke objects and much more.
*Prado Museum: the most important museum in all of Madrid and one of the most important in the world. It was inaugurated in 1819. It mainly has paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries. You can find works by Velázquez, El Greco, Rubens, Goya, among other great painters. The entrance fee is $17.
*El Retiro: the most important park in all of Madrid. It is without a doubt the most important lung of the city with its 118 hectares. It was inaugurated in 1868 for the enjoyment of King Felipe IV and here you can find several very interesting points of interest of a diverse amount of activities and things to enjoy such as puppet shows, musicians, fortune tellers, seers and much more. Admission is free and is located near the Prado Museum. The Puerta de Alcalá is one of the most emblematic and well-known monuments in all of Madrid and is located near the park so you should take advantage to visit it.
*The Plaza de Cibeles: it is the most important square in the city. It has a beautiful fountain in honor of the goddess Cibeles, which goes in a chariot pulled by lions. This is where the celebrations of the Real Madrid football team and the Spanish Soccer Team take place. The Cibeles Palace is one of the buildings that surround this square built in 1919. The town hall is currently located here. There is also the Buenavista Palace, which was the residence of the Dukes of Alba in 1777 and is currently the Army Headquarters.
*Bank of Spain: the headquarters of the bank of Spain. It has a beautiful interior full of works from Goya, Mengs, and Maella, among others.
Undoubtedly, Madrid is one of the cities with more historical and cultural sites in Spain. In every corner, you will find an interesting story and some monument to discover.

Bienvenidos turistas, en esta ocasión vamos hablar de la capital de España, sede del equipo más ganador de la Champions League: nos referimos a Madrid, España. La fundación de la ciudad data del siglo IX. Cuenta con una densidad de población de casi 3 millones y medio de habitantes mientras que su área metropolitana cuenta con más de 6 millones y medio de habitantes, siendo así la tercer ciudad más habitada de toda la Unión Europea.
En cuanto a riqueza se encuentra como la 4ta ciudad con mejor economía en todo Europa. Además, es un influyente centro cultural ya que cuenta con varios museos de referencia internacional teniendo en sus filas cuatro de los 100 más visitados en el mundo.
Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Madrid tienen un costo promedio de $850 y cuentan con una o dos escalas en su gran mayoría. La mejor forma de moverte por la ciudad sin lugar a dudas es a pie, ya que en cada rincón de la ciudad encontrarás algo atractivo para ver y conocer, pero si tienes planeado moverte de un extremo de la ciudad a otro la mejor forma de moverse es en el servicio de metro, el cual es sin lugar a dudas el servicio de transporte más eficiente en la ciudad. La ciudad cuenta con una muy amplia gama de hoteles para todos los gustos y presupuestos. Podrás encontrar hoteles 3 estrellas con habitaciones por tan sólo $40 la noche, mientras que en hoteles 5 estrellas desde $130 la noche. La comida española por naturaleza es una de las más queridas y apreciadas a nivel mundial, referencia para muchos otros países. Uno de los platillos típicos de la ciudad es el cocido madrileño, el cual es una sopa con garbanzos, verduras y carne; también los callos a la madrileña, los cuales son muy similares al menudo mexicano (el cual se trata de las tripas de ternera cocidas y servidas en un caldo). Los costos promedio de una comida completa son de $18.
Los lugares que no deberás dejar de conocer en tu próxima visita por la ciudad de Madrid son los siguientes:
*Puerta del Sol: es una de las plazas más famosas de todo Madrid. Es el punto por excelencia en donde se reúnen los madrileños y los turistas. Los tres puntos más importantes que ver en esta plaza son los siguientes: “Estatua del Oso y el Madroño”, el cual es el símbolo de Madrid así como su escudo de armas, tiene una altura de 4 metros y tiene un peso aproximado de 20 toneladas; “El Reloj de la Casa de Correos”, que es el lugar donde se emiten las famosas campanadas de la Puerta del Sol cada fin de año; y por último el “Kilómetro Cero”, punto desde el que comienzan las carreteras radiales españolas y lugar en el que todo turista debe tomarse una foto.
*Plaza Mayor: se encuentra a unos cuantos metros de la Puerta del Sol en pleno centro de Madrid. Esta plaza históricamente ha sido punto de reunión para dar anuncios y celebraciones de carácter civil. Cuenta con varias placas conmemorativas de lugares históricos y de símbolos de gran valor. También se encuentra aquí la estatua de Felipe III, antiguo rey español, al igual que la Casa de la Panadería, el cual es el edificio más antiguo de toda esa zona ya que se empezó a construir en 1590. Durante la época decembrina, la plaza se llena de puestos de artículos navideños, disfraces, objetos de broma y mucho más.
*Museo del Prado: es el museo más importante de todo Madrid y uno de los más importantes en el mundo. Fue inaugurado en el año 1819. Cuenta principalmente con pinturas del siglo XVI al siglo XIX. Podrás encontrarte con obras de Velázquez, El Greco, Rubens, Goya, entre otros grandes pintores. El costo de entrada es de $17.
*El Retiro: es el parque más importante de todo Madrid. Es sin lugar a dudas el pulmón más importante de la ciudad con sus 118 hectáreas. Fue inaugurado en el año de 1868 para disfrute del rey Felipe IV y aquí podrás encontrar varios puntos de interés muy interesantes de una diversa cantidad de actividades y cosas por disfrutar como los espectáculos de marionetas, músicos, adivinos, videntes y mucho más. La entrada es gratuita y se encuentra en las cercanías del Museo del Prado. La Puerta de Alcalá es uno de los monumentos más emblemáticos y conocidos de todo Madrid y se encuentra en las cercanías del parque así que deberás aprovechar para conocerla.
*La plaza de Cibeles: es la plaza más importante de la ciudad. Cuenta con una hermosa fuente en honor a la Diosa Cibeles la cual va en un carro tirado por leones. Aquí es donde se llevan a cabo los festejos del equipo de fútbol Real Madrid y de la Selección Española de Fútbol. El Palacio de Cibeles es uno de los edificios que rodean esta plaza construido en 1919. Actualmente aquí se encuentra el ayuntamiento de la ciudad. También está el Palacio de Buenavista, el cual fue residencia de los duques de Alba en 1777 y que actualmente es el Cuartel General del Ejército.
*Banco de España: es la sede central del banco de España. Cuenta con un hermoso interior lleno de obras de Goya, Mengs, Maella, entre otros.
Sin lugar a dudas Madrid es una de las ciudades con más lugares históricos y culturales de todo España. En cada rincón te encontrarás con una historia interesante y algún monumento que descubrir.
