Wonderful World: Discover Cordoba

By Tom Sawyer

Welcome tourists! In this edition we have to talk about the second most populated and the largest city in Argentina. We are talking about Cordoba, Argentina. It was founded in 1573 by Spaniard Jeronimo Luis de Cabrera, and it has a population density of around 1.4 million inhabitants while its metropolitan area surpasses 1.5 million inhabitants.
The city is located at the heart of the country and it is an important cultural, economic, education, financial and entertainment hub in the region. It is the main city receiving university students from all over the country and from other parts of the world. This is because it has one of the most important universities in the entire continent.
Round-trip flights from Kansas to Cordoba have an average cost of $1,200 and most of them have two layovers. The best way to get around the city is through the bus system. For that, you will need to buy the “Red Bus” card that has a cost of $1.50 and the approximate cost of $0.50 per trip. Another practical way to get around the city is through the bicycle system, which is becoming more extensive and safer throughout the city, so renting a bicycle is also an excellent option. Despite Cordoba being one of Argentina’s most important cities, lodging is pretty affordable for everyone, having an average cost per room of $35 per night in a 3-star hotel and $100 per night in a 5-star hotel. Some of the traditional dishes you should not miss when you visit Cordoba are the meatballs a Cordovan, which has ground meatballs cooked in a broth with vegetables. You should also try breaded milanesas, it should be noted that this food is very famous throughout Latin America and comes from Milan, Italy, but it has been adapted to a recipe from Cordoba. And as a drink you should not miss the Fernet, which is an excellent option. It is an alcoholic drink made with various types of herbs and which is dark in color. The average cost of a meal is $7 with dessert included.
The places you should not miss during your next visit for the Argentinian city of Cordoba are:

*Cordoba Cathedral: one of the main jewels of colonial architecture. Its construction began in 1580 and has various styles of architecture; this is because throughout these more than 400 years of history, various details have been added. It is considered the largest temple since the foundation of Cordoba and therefore it is one of the most representative buildings in the city. It is located in the historic center.
*Jesuit Estancias: considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The site, named as the Jesuit Block and Estancias of Cordoba, is made up of six groups: The Jesuit Block and the Estancias de Caroya, Jesús María, Santa Catalina, Alta Gracia and La Candelaria. All these rooms began to be built in 1615 and were used for more than 150 years. Here you can visit the university, the church, the residence of the Jesuit priests as well as the Montserrat school. If you are a fan of religious architecture without a doubt you should visit these important buildings with a lot of history behind.
*Aerosilla Complex: a small amusement park. Here you can enjoy a 1 km ride on a chairlift where you will climb more than 200 meters high and enjoy one of the best views of the city at the top of a hill. In addition, it also has a slide where you will quickly go down the entire mountain while zigzagging from one side to the other. It also has a zip line that will make you travel the route from one hill to another and finally you can enjoy an air train, which is similar to a roller coaster, that crosses the hills and you will have wonderful views from above. The entry fee is $9.
*Historical Museum of the University of Cordoba: founded in 1613. In 1622, it became the University of Cordoba and it remained like that until the current University of Cordoba, located just opposite of the old one, was built. Here you can visit the Jesuit Main Library and also much of the history behind the oldest university school in all of Argentina and one of the most important and recognized in all of America.
I recommend you exchange enough cash into Argentina’s official currency, which is the peso argentino. There are many places where card payments are not accepted, in addition to the fact that the U.S. dollar is usually taken with an unfavorable exchange rate when trying to pay with it.
Without more for the moment, I say goodbye, not before wishing you an excellent adventure. Greetings and have a safe trip!
