How to have fun on Labor Day

Like elsewhere around the country, the Kansas City area is preparing to celebrate Labor Day, scheduled for Sept. 5 this year.
Fortunately, people wanting to celebrate the annual holiday have many options. They include the following:
*Relax: You’re not shirking responsibility by taking a break. Rather, you’re taking care of yourself, so you’ll have the stamina to be your best. Using Labor Day to take a break from work and obligations at home is an excellent way to honor its significance. Remember that old saying – work to live, don’t live to work.
Relaxing also can be a time to …

*Reflect: This day allows you to reflect on your professional goals. It’s always important to reconsider your dreams. Labor Day also is an opportunity to create awareness in your children about the importance of work, along with the importance of an education and having ambitions beyond money.

But if you feel like doing something …
*Host a barbecue: Labor Day is a great opportunity to get outdoors before temperatures begin to drop and connect with family and friends – and given the holiday’s celebration of workers’ social and economic achievements, coworkers. Inviting coworkers to your barbecue allows you to honor the holiday and discover a new side of the people you interact with daily.

*Give back to you community: Labor Day can be a good time to show your appreciation by helping organizations that need it the most. Volunteer with a local organization or donate, especially to a workers’ rights organization. Some organizations that support and uphold workers’ rights across the country include Workplace Fairness, Jobs with Justice and Out & Equal Workplace Advocates.

*Attend an area event: Public gatherings like parades, picnics, barbecues and fireworks displays are among the most popular Labor Day activities. There are tons of fun family activities happening around the Kansas City area. Find the ones that excite you the most and make this day special for everyone in the family.

*Organiza una parrillada: Labor Day es una gran oportunidad para salir al aire libre antes de que empiecen a bajar las temperaturas y conectar con la familia y los amigos, y dada la celebración de los logros sociales y económicos de los trabajadores, con los compañeros de trabajo. Invitar a los compañeros de trabajo a tu parrillada te permite honrar la fiesta y descubrir una nueva faceta de las personas con las que te relacionas a diario.

*Devuelve algo a tu comunidad: Labor Day puede ser un buen momento para mostrar su agradecimiento ayudando a las organizaciones que más lo necesitan. Hazte voluntario en una organización local o haz un donativo, especialmente a una organización de derechos de los trabajadores.
