This Saturday (March 18), Sala de Arte is hosting a new art exhibit.
This special art exhibit will include an open mic, starting at 5:15 p.m. Phyllis Hernandez, owner and director of the art gallery, said Sala de Arte always tries to have an open mic with its art exhibits.
“We hear that a lot of people want open mics so that it gives more opportunities to people starting out,” she said.
Hernandez always envisioned Sala de Arte as a platform for new artists of all kinds, she said.
The theme for the exhibit, scheduled to run 5-9 p.m., is “Perfectly Imperfect.”
“It’s just to show the human side of us – that none of us are perfect,” Hernandez said.
Many of the paintings are a reflection of being human, she said. The open mic performances will follow the theme.
Both the exhibit and open mic are free.
“We’re just asking, for the open mic, if anybody feels free to leave a cash donation for the artist that’s performing,” she said.
About 10 artists will showcase their artwork, including Chico Sierra, Dan Solano, Rae Franco, Melissa Chavez, Alfredo Gonzalez and Phyllis Hernandez. The open mic will feature artists such as Selene Soto, Rae Franco, Nash High and Third Floor.
Sala de Arte is located at 4828 E. Ninth St. in Kansas City, Missouri.

Este 18 de marzo, la galería Sala de Arte organizará una nueva muestra de arte.
Esta exhibición de arte especial incluirá un micrófono abierto, u open mic, a partir de las 5:15 p.m. Phyllis Hernández, propietaria y directora de la galería de arte, dijo que Sala de Arte siempre trata de tener un micrófono abierto con sus exhibiciones de arte.
“Escuchamos que mucha gente quiere micrófonos abiertos para que brinde más oportunidades a las personas que comienzan”, dijo.
Hernández siempre visualizó la Sala de Arte como una plataforma para nuevos artistas de todo tipo, dijo.
El tema de la exposición, programada para las 5 p.m. hasta las 9 p.m., es “Perfectamente imperfecto”.
“Es sólo para mostrar nuestro lado humano, que ninguno de nosotros es perfecto”, dijo.
Muchas de las pinturas son un reflejo del ser humano, dijo. Las actuaciones de micrófono abierto seguirán el mismo tema. Tanto la exhibición como el micrófono abierto son gratuitos.
“Para el micrófono abierto, sólo estamos pidiendo que los que quieran y puedan realicen una donación en efectivo para el artista que se está presentando”, dijo.
Alrededor de 10 artistas exhibirán sus obras de arte, incluidos Chico Sierra, Dan Solano, Rae Franco, Melissa Chávez, Alfredo González y Phyllis Hernández. El micrófono abierto contará con artistas como Selene Soto, Rae Franco, Nash High y Third Floor.
