For her heart design in the latest “Parade of Hearts” campaign, Angelica Ahumada De Jesus turned to a Kansas City area pro soccer team for inspiration.
It wasn’t Sporting Kansas City.
Instead, the Mexican-American artist was inspired by the Kansas City Current, the women’s professional soccer team, and the Current’s new stadium, she said. Her design is on display at Berkley Riverfront Park in Kansas City, Missouri.
“I feel incredibly proud of myself and immensely happy with how the process unfolded,” Ahumada De Jesus said. “Painting the heart was a lot harder to do than I expected. It was very intimidating once I had the blank heart in my possession. It was also very validating and amazing to see people’s reactions and hear their thoughts on it.”
“As a woman and mother, the KC Current team and their stadium are very important to me,” she added. “This is a team I can take my daughter to see and show her women’s representation in professional sports.”
The design is in keeping with Ahumada De Jesus’ philosophy about art. Known for her contemporary geometric style, which she uses to express the beauty of individuality, she is passionate about incorporating her culture and experiences as a woman into her art, she said.
But those aren’t her only sources of inspiration.
“I’m inspired by so many things in my life,” Ahumada De Jesus said. “I’ve done paintings inspired by my heritage, my culture, being a woman, my daughter or just random experiences in my everyday life. There’s beauty in everything; it’s just a matter of finding it and expressing my view.”
The design also is part of an artistic journey that started when Ahumada De Jesus was a girl.
“Art classes in school were always a fun time, and I loved crafting at home with my siblings,” she recalled. “It was a creative outlet I enjoyed, and it helped me express my feelings. A few years ago, I started taking it more seriously and never stopped.”
Ahumada De Jesus’ influences include artists that are around her and artists that she follows on social media, she said.
“Exposing myself to different art styles or new places or even new people helps me derive the fuel I need to create art,” she said. “There really is beauty anywhere you go.”
When she’s not creating art, Ahumada De Jesus enjoys spending time outdoors, reading and exercising, she said. She also is a new mother and loves spending time with her family, she said.

Artista se inspira en el fútbol para diseñar corazón
Para el diseño de su corazón en la última campaña del “Parade of Hearts”, Angélica Ahumada De Jesús recurrió a un equipo de fútbol profesional del área de Kansas City en busca de inspiración.
No al Sporting Kansas City.

“Me siento increíblemente orgullosa de mí misma e inmensamente feliz por cómo se desarrolló el proceso”, dijo Ahumada De Jesús. “Pintar el corazón fue mucho más difícil de lo que esperaba. Fue muy intimidante una vez que tuve el corazón en blanco en mi poder. También fue muy validador y sorprendente ver las reacciones de las personas y escuchar sus pensamientos al respecto”.
“Como mujer y madre, el equipo de KC Current y su estadio son muy importantes para mí”, agregó. “Este es un equipo al que puedo llevar a mi hija a ver y mostrar su representación femenina en los deportes profesionales”.
El diseño está en consonancia con su filosofía sobre el arte. Conocida por su estilo geométrico contemporáneo, que utiliza para expresar la belleza de la individualidad, le apasiona incorporar su cultura y experiencias como mujer en su arte, dijo.
Pero esas no son sus únicas fuentes de inspiración.
“Me inspiran tantas cosas en mi vida”, dijo Ahumada De Jesús. “He hecho pinturas inspiradas en mi herencia, mi cultura, ser mujer, mi hija o simplemente experiencias aleatorias en mi vida cotidiana. Hay belleza en todo; es sólo cuestión de encontrarla y expresar mi punto de vista”.
El diseño también es parte de un viaje artístico que comenzó cuando Ahumada De Jesus era una niña.
“Las clases de arte en la escuela siempre fueron un momento divertido y me encantaba hacer manualidades en casa con mis hermanos”, recordó. “Fue una salida creativa que disfruté y me ayudó a expresar mis sentimientos. Hace unos años, comencé a tomármelo más en serio y nunca me detuve”.
Sus influencias incluyen artistas que la rodean y artistas que sigue en las redes sociales, dijo.
“Exponerme a diferentes estilos de arte o nuevos lugares o incluso nuevas personas me ayuda a obtener el combustible que necesito para crear arte”, dijo. “Realmente hay belleza dondequiera que vayas”.
Cuando no está creando arte, Ahumada De Jesús disfruta pasar tiempo al aire libre, leer y hacer ejercicio, dijo. Ella también es una madre primeriza y le encanta pasar tiempo con su familia, dijo.
