Reyes Ramirez unveils magic in ‘Parade of Hearts’ installation
When Socorro Reyes Ramirez’s application to contribute to the latest “Parade of Hearts” art installation/fundraising campaign was accepted, she decided to create a design with a magical perspective.
Titled “The Seven Magic Animals,” Reyes Ramirez’s piece is located at North Oak Trafficway in Kansas City, Missouri. Her involvement with “Parade of Hearts” began when a friend informed her about the Kansas City area installation/campaign and shared the application link. Excited by the opportunity to showcase her art in a public space, she diligently worked on conceptualizing and designing her heart sculpture, she said.
“It has been a lovely experience for me,” Reyes Ramirez said. “I feel very grateful to the ‘Parade of Hearts’ (personnel) and everyone who has supported my art.”
Those who’ve supported Reyes Ramirez include her family members.
“I’ve always loved drawing. I inherited it from my family. My grandma taught me many different art forms,” she said. “As a result, art has always been my passion.”
Reyes Ramirez learned from her grandmother and began exploring her love for art while growing up in Veracruz, Mexico, a region known for its vibrant art and culture. She went on to earn a degree in visual arts from Universidad Veracruzana, specializing in illustration and visual narrative.
Since then, Reyes Ramirez’s works have been exhibited in numerous countries, including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, France, Italy, Spain and the United States, she said. Her work compasses a range of media, including mural painting, sculpture and accessory design.
“I am a multimedia artist because I love exploring new techniques, juxtaposing them and using them as an artistic dialogue,” Reyes Ramirez said. “I consider myself a highly creative person with a hyperactive mind, always thinking about what I will do next. ‘Creative mind’ is how I would describe my style because it is eclectic, symbolic and colorful.”
Reyes Ramirez characterizes her style as possessing a bold, imaginative approach that reflects her eclectic influences. She defines her art as colorful, creative and symbolic.
Reyes Ramirez’s inspiration for her color, creative and symbolic art comes from nature and history, she said. She finds beauty in the world around her, weaving narratives that reflect her Mexican heritage, personal experiences and a profound respect for the environment, she said.
Other artists also inspire Reyes Ramirez. Those she admires include Remedios Varo for her paintings, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn for his self-portraits, Diego Rivera for his murals and M.C. Escher for his sense of perspective. Still others she admires include Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio for his sense of high contrast, Albrecht Durer for his painting “Young Hare,” Hieronymus Bosch for his imagination and Egon Schiele for his depiction of human bodies.
Reyes Ramirez recommends that aspiring artists study those and other revered artists.
“You should also familiarize yourself with art history because all the great masters of the past are the best teachers you can find,” she said. “Follow your dreams and remember that creative people are special, and we have no limits.”

Socorro Reyes Ramírez revela magia en instalación ‘Parade of Hearts’
Cuando se aceptó la solicitud de Socorro Reyes Ramírez para contribuir a la última instalación de arte/campaña de recaudación de fondos “Parade of Hearts”, decidió crear un diseño con una perspectiva mágica.
Titulado “Los Siete Animales Mágicos”, la obra de Reyes Ramirez está ubicada en North Oak Trafficway en Kansas City, Missouri. Su participación en “Parade of Hearts” comenzó cuando un amigo le informó sobre la instalación/campaña del área de Kansas City y compartió el enlace de la solicitud.
