Jorge Coromac awarded the DiPardo Spirit Leader (drum honoree)

Kansas City Chiefs awarded Jorge Coromac Westside CAN Director as the DiPardo Spirit Leader (drum honoree) before the fourth quarter during the game against the Browns on Aug. 26.
The beating of the drum is performed by a former organization member, celebrity or local star as a pre-game ritual. This drum beating is said to unite the players and fans as one; however, the Chiefs stated that the drum deck tradition will be slightly modified to better symbolize the spiritual importance of the drum in American Indian culture. The team states they will address modifying the drum deck tradition by discussing “…how to shift the focus of the drum to something that symbolizes the heartbeat of the stadium.”
“It is a true honor to receive this recognition from the Kansas City Chiefs and motivates us to continue implementing the Westside CAN Center programs. For several years we have coordinated with GEHA the implementation of projects in the Westside such as back to school, Christmas in the Westside, the fall festival and others” commented Jorge Coromac. “It is beautiful to see how our cultures and traditions blend with sport – football – in a very transcendental way and having the honor of being the drum honoree inspires us more to continue serving our community.”
