Shawnee to host last Mobile Wellness Fair of 2023
Shawnee, Kansas, is organizing its last Mobile Wellness Fair this year.
Scheduled for 9:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at Shawanoe Elementary School, located at 11230 W. 75th St., the fair aims to provide free food and resources to the community, said Matt Mann, the city’s recreation manager.
“(This fair) is part of an effort amongst many partnering organizations in the city to provide free food and connections to local health providers, with organizations that are there to meet the needs of the community,” Mann said.
Throughout the year, the city has organized a few of the fairs at the same location with the goal of helping the community connect with health and wellness resources, and offering free food.
Mann qualifies this year as a success. During the previous fair, almost 200 people came out to get food, he said.
“The wonderful thing is that they came out to get food for themselves but also for their neighbors,” Mann said. “We were able to support our community as a group and be able to meet these needs together.”
The event is free and open to not only those in need, but also to the public in general.
Partners including AdventHealth, Mercy and Trust Medical Missions, and El Centro Inc. have helped make the fairs possible.
“It’s been amazing to meet with organizations that all have the same heart for the community, but weren’t able to do the job on their own,” Mann said. “We have larger organizations, but we also have smaller individuals with their own businesses that come and set up that deserve a spot at the table as well to share their resources.”
For the Oct. 21 fair, partners like AdventHealth, Shawnee Mission, and Mercy and Trust Medical Missions also will offer free flu vaccinations.

Shawnee organizará última Feria de Bienestar Móvil del 2023
Shawnee, Kansas, está organizando su última Feria de Bienestar Móvil de este año.
Programada para el 21 de octubre de 9:30 a 11:30 a m. en la Escuela Primaria Shawanoe, ubicada en 11230 W. 75th St., la feria tiene como objetivo proporcionar alimentos y recursos gratuitos a la comunidad, dijo Matt Mann, gerente de recreación de la ciudad.
“(Esta feria) es parte de un esfuerzo entre muchas organizaciones asociadas en la ciudad para brindar comida gratuita y conexiones con proveedores de salud locales, con organizaciones que están allí para satisfacer las necesidades de la comunidad”, dijo Mann.
A lo largo del año, la ciudad ha organizado algunas ferias en el mismo lugar con el objetivo de ayudar a la comunidad a conectarse con recursos de salud y bienestar, y ofrecer comida gratis.
Mann califica este año como un éxito. Durante la feria anterior, casi 200 personas salieron a buscar alimentos, dijo.
“Lo maravilloso es que salieron a buscar comida para ellos pero también para sus vecinos”, dijo Mann. “Pudimos apoyar a nuestra comunidad como grupo y satisfacer estas necesidades juntos”.
El evento es gratuito y está abierto no sólo a los necesitados, sino también al público en general.
Socios como AdventHealth, Mercy and Trust Medical Missions y El Centro Inc. han ayudado a hacer posibles las ferias.
“Ha sido increíble reunirse con organizaciones que tienen el mismo corazón por la comunidad, pero que no podían hacer el trabajo por sí solas”, dijo Mann. “Tenemos organizaciones más grandes, pero también tenemos personas más pequeñas con sus propios negocios que vienen y se instalan y que también merecen un lugar en la mesa para compartir sus recursos”.
Para la feria del 21 de octubre, socios como AdventHealth, Shawnee Mission y Mercy and Trust Medical Missions también ofrecerán vacunas contra la gripe gratuitas.
