Around 100 Greater Kansas City area high schoolers participated in the latest KC BizFest, held Feb. 28-March 2 at Johnson County (Kansas) Community College in Overland Park.
Organized by the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Collaborative and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City, plus more than 15 other sponsors, KC BizFest is designed to help “students turn hobbies and skills into profit-making ventures” and achieve other goals, the Hispanic Collaborative website states.
“Students learn the art of networking in business environments, identifying investment opportunities, implementing money management skills and making public presentations,” its official website reads. “By attending KC BizFest, students gain entrepreneurial experience, economic literacy, and improved skills in math, reading, writing and verbal communication while gaining workforce readiness when creating feasible business plans.”
The event also provides mentoring opportunities. During the event, students “can interact with mentors to receive encouragement, advice and practice opportunities,” the official website states.
In addition, the top six winners at the annual event “receive checks to be used to further their educational endeavors,” the official website reads.
“All graduating participants are eligible to apply for scholarships from participating colleges and universities,” it states.
Hispanic Collaborative celebra otro exitoso KC BizFest
Cerca de 100 estudiantes de secundaria del area metropolitana de Kansas City participaron en la última version de KC BizFest, llevado a cabo del 28 de febrero al 2 de marzo en el Johson County (Kansas) Community College en Overland Park.
Organizado por el Greater Kansas City Hispanic Collaborative y la Cámara de Comercio Hispana del Gran Kansas City, además de más de otros 15 patrocinadores, KC BizFest está diseñado para ayudar a “los estudiantes a convertir pasatiempos y habilidades en empresas lucrativas” y lograr otras metas, como indica el sitio web del Hispanic Collaborative.
“Los estudiantes aprenden el arte de establecer contactos en entornos empresariales, identificar oportunidades de inversión, implementar habilidades de administración de dinero y realizar presentaciones públicas”, se lee en su sitio web oficial. “Al asistir a KC BizFest, los estudiantes obtienen experiencia empresarial, conocimientos económicos y mejores habilidades en matemáticas, lectura, escritura y comunicación verbal, al mismo tiempo que se preparan para la fuerza laboral al crear planes de negocios viables”.
El evento también ofrece oportunidades de tutoría. Durante el evento, los estudiantes “pueden interactuar con mentores para recibir estímulo, consejos y oportunidades de práctica”, afirma el sitio web oficial.
Además, los seis primeros ganadores del evento anual “reciben cheques que se utilizarán para promover sus esfuerzos educativos”, se lee en el sitio web oficial.
“Todos los participantes que se gradúan son elegibles para solicitar becas de los colegios y universidades participantes”, afirma.
