On March 14, the Privee Restaurant + Lounge in Kansas City, Missouri, was abuzz, as guests gathered to support Helen Ortiz’s campaign for the 2024 Dancing with the Kansas City Stars event.
A showcase of local talent, the event at Privee raised funds for Cristo Rey High School while providing attendees an opportunity to meet Ortiz and learn about her journey and her desire to inspire others facing adversity.
Ortiz’s journey started in Guatemala. As a migrating teen, she left a small town in the Central American Country. She has survived cancer twice, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, she reinvented herself professionally. She works in commercial real estate and competes as an international bodybuilder.
The fundraising aspect of the evening included raffles for prizes like premium tequila bottles and signed sports memorabilia for those who supported Ortiz’s campaign with their votes.
Dancing with the Kansas City Stars, where Ortiz is slated to showcase her dancing skills, is scheduled for April 27 at the Sheraton at Crown Center, located 2345 McGee St. in Kansas City, Missouri. Like Ortiz’s event at the Privee, it’ll raise money for Cristo Rey.
