The Mexican Consulate in Kansas City begins its celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month and the Mexican Patriotic Festivities with the inauguration of the mural exhibition titled: “Voces en el Lienzo Público (Voices on the Public Canvas). Twelve works by Mexican and American artists are on display inside the consulate offices. The exhibition aims to promote encounter through art, drawing from identity and memory. Mural art has deep-rooted traditions in Mexico, where its artists have achieved national and international recognition.
Nine of the twelve participating artists were able to attend the inauguration and received certificates of recognition for their artistic contributions from the Acting Consul, Oscar Soberanes Benítez. The event was filled with music, food, and community gathering in true Mexican style, featuring mariachi, tacos, family, and friends.
According to some of the artists, working inside the consulate and interacting with the staff during the creation process was an excellent experience. Artist Vicente Medellín presents his vision of Mexican deities and fieldworkers—deep symbols of daily life. He mentioned that this has been a great opportunity to promote his art; born in Kansas City, he expressed that this is the best way to connect with his ancestral roots from Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí.
Artist Giselle Garza shared that an important aspect of representing Mexican female culture is wearing long hair and braiding it. She captured this in her mural, which also features a brown-skinned woman with flowers, surrounded by butterflies that symbolize transformation and the transition into adulthood.
Artist Liz Vargas showcases the city of Guanajuato in her mural, a place to which she feels connected through family roots and her personal fondness for the city. She had always wanted to study art and develop her career; thanks to her mother’s support during childhood and her partner’s support now in adulthood, she has achieved it and feels very happy doing so.
El Consulado de México inaugura la exposición de murales: “Voces en el Lienzo Público”
El Consulado de Mexico en Kansas City inicia las celebraciones del mes de las fiestas patrias y herencia hispana con la inauguración de la muestra de murales titulada: Voces en el Lienzo Público.
Se exponen 12 obras de artistas Mexicanos y Estadounidenses dentro de las oficinas del consulado. La intención es promover el encuentro a través del arte desde la Identidad y la Memoria.
El arte muralista tiene unas raíces muy fuertes en México donde sus artistas han logrado reconocimiento a nivel nacional e internacional.
En la inauguración pudieron estar presentes 9 de los 12 artistas convocados, de los cuales pudieron recibir un diploma de reconocimiento por su contribución artística de parte del cónsul encargado Oscar Soberanes Benitez. Fue un evento lleno de música, comida y convivencia al buen estilo mexicano con mariachi, tacos, familia y amigos.
En las palabras de algunos artistas fue una muy buena experiencia trabajar dentro del consulado y convivir con el personal durante las jornadas de creación.
El artista Vicente Medellín nos muestra su vision de las deidades y los trabajadores de campo mexicanos, simbolos profundos de la vida cotidiana, comenta que ha sido una buena oportunidad para promover su arte, nacido en Kansas City dice que esta es la mejor manera de conectar con sus raíces ancestrales mexicanas de Zacatecas y San Luis Potosí.
La Artista Giselle Garza nos comenta que una parte importante de la representación de la cultura femenina Mexicana es llevar pelo largo y poder hacerse trenzas. Esto lo plasma en su mural donde también vemos una mujer morena con flores y rodeada de mariposas que significan la transformación y cambio hacia la adultez.
La Artista Liz Vargas nos muestra en su mural la ciudad de Guanajuato, con la cual se siente conectada por raíces familiares y el gusto de esta ciudad. Desde siempre había querido estudiar arte y desarrollar su carrera, gracias al apoyo de su mamá desde niña y a su pareja ahora en su etapa adulta lo ha logrado y se siente muy feliz haciéndolo.
