The Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center in Kansas City has launched the traveling group exhibition “Nuestra Tierra: Breaking Borders.” This art exhibition deeply explores the roots, shared histories, and cultural memory of the Mexican diaspora in the United States, challenging geographic divisions through visual expression.
Curated by local artist Liz González, the exhibition brings together seven renowned Mexican-American muralists from across the country. The project stands out for its community-focused approach; in addition to displaying individual pieces, the artists worked on a collaborative mural live within the center’s ceramics studio, allowing the public to witness the blending of their diverse styles in real time.
Participating creators include key figures in contemporary and urban art, such as:Arsenio Baca, Liz Gonzalez, Mario Figueroa Jr. (Gonzo247), Luis Novoa, Pablo Hernández, Julio Mendoza, Sergio Gómez y Yesenia Mejia Urieta.
Each artist offers a unique perspective on the experience of living across borders, languages, and lineages. Through this initiative, the Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center reaffirms its mission to celebrate Latinx traditions and strengthen the social fabric through art.

“Nuestra Tierra: Breaking Borders”: El arte de la inmigración en Mattie Rhodes
Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center en Kansas City ha inaugurado la destacada exposición colectiva “Nuestra Tierra: Breaking Borders”. Esta muestra artística explora profundamente las raíces, las historias compartidas y la memoria cultural de la historia mexicana en los Estados Unidos, desafiando las divisiones geográficas a través de la expresión visual.
Curada por la artista local Liz González, la exhibición reúne a siete reconocidos muralistas méxico-americanos de todo el país. El proyecto destaca por su enfoque comunitario; además de exhibir sus piezas individuales, los artistas trabajaron en un mural colaborativo en vivo dentro del estudio de cerámica del centro, permitiendo al público presenciar la unión de sus diversos estilos en tiempo real.
