Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park, Kansas, is preparing for its annual parish festival.
The parish will stage the festival Sept. 19, starting with a 3 p.m. Mass. The Rev. Cesar Gomez said the festival will feataure food, music and many children’s activities.
“The idea is to make something that all members of the family can enjoy,” he said.
The free event also will help serve as a parish fundraiser. People can help raise funds by buying the food offered at the event.
Gomez sees the event as a way to attract more people to the parish – and the Catholic faith in general.
“It’s an opportunity for people who are not part of the parish to meet our community and also for those who are not even Catholics to learn about us,” he said.
As a parish newcomer, Gomez recently experienced what it’s like to meet members of Holy Cross.
“Everyone has been very welcoming,” he said. “Now, others can experience it, too.”
The parish is located at 8311 W. 93rd St. in Overland Park.
