Damas y caballeros, es un honor anunciar que no habrá más debates presidenciales en el 2016!
Las situaciones embarazosas creadas por los tres debates, entre el candidato presidencial republicano Donald Trump y candidato demócrata, Hillary Clinton, fueron puestas a descansar. Finalmente.
Si es que existe un aspecto “positivo” en las actuaciones de Trump, este sería su consistencia. En cada debate, su actuación fue idéntica: agresiva y embarazosa para esta gran nación.
Las declaraciones falsas y la constante agresividad hacia Clinton e incluso hacia los moderadores se convirtieron en la norma. Luego, durante el último debate, celebrado el 19 de octubre en Las Vegas, Nevada, Trump sorprendió a todos – y asusto a los ciudadanos de este país – con una declaración poco común para la política estadounidense: Se negó cumplir con la regla más básica de nuestra democracia, aceptar los resultados de una elección.
Luego, el 20 de octubre, el candidato republicano superó aún a sí mismo.
“Me gustaría prometer a todos mis votantes y simpatizantes y a todos los habitantes de los Estados Unidos que voy a aceptar totalmente los resultados de esta gran e histórica elección presidencial – si gano”, dijo.
Sin lugar a dudas, estas declaraciones fueron horrible y embarazosa, pero lograron convertirse en un momento histórico en la política de Estados Unidos.
En una nota más positiva, el rendimiento de Clinton durante el tercer debate fue su mejor. Incluso me atrevería a decir que Clinton tuvo la mejor actuación de su carrera esa noche. Podría decirse que su mejor momento fue cuando respondió a las acusaciones de Trump acerca que su equipo había desenterrado todas las recientes acusaciones de asalto sexual contra Trump.
“Donald piensa que al menospreciar a las mujeres él se hace más grande”, dijo. “Él va tras su dignidad, su autoestima – y no creo que haya una mujer en cualquier lugar que no sabe lo que esto se siente. Así que ahora sabemos lo que piensa Donald y lo que dice y cómo actúa hacia las mujeres. Eso es lo que es Donald”.
“Creo que realmente depende de todos nosotros demostrar lo que somos y lo que nuestro país es”, agregó Clinton. “Y (depende de nosotros) ponernos de pie y ser muy claro acerca de lo que esperamos de nuestro próximo presidente, la forma en que queremos llevar a nuestro país, que no quiere estar uno contra él otro, donde en lugar, celebramos nuestra diversidad, elevamos a la gente y hagamos nuestro país aún mejor”.
Y así, con los debates (por suerte) concluídos, es la hora de los votantes estadounidenses elegir a su 45avo presidente. Esperemos que esta presidencia no sea una mera continuación embarazosa para esta gran nación.

The third presidential debate: An end to all the embarrassments

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my honor to announce there are no more presidential debates scheduled for 2016!
The international embarrassments created by the three debates between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton have been put to rest. Finally.
If there was one “positive” aspect to Trump’s performances it would be his consistency. At each debate, his performance was identical: aggressive and embarrassing for this great nation.
False statements and aggressiveness toward Clinton and even the moderators became part of the norm. Then, during the last debate, held on Oct. 19 in Las Vegas, Nev., Trump surprised everyone – and scared Americans – with a rare statement for American politics: He refused to abide by the basic rule of accepting the results of an election.
Then, on Oct. 20, the Republican candidate outdid himself.
“I would like to promise and pledge to all of my voters and supporters and to all of the people of the United States that I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election – if I win,” he said.
Without a doubt, these statements were horrifying and embarrassing, yet became a historic moment in U.S. politics.
On a more positive note, Clinton’s performance during the third debate was her best of the three. I would even dare to say that Clinton had the best performance of her career that night. Arguably, her finest moment was when she responded to Trump’s accusations that her campaign staff had dug up all the recent charges of sexual assault being brought up against him.
“Donald thinks belittling women makes him bigger,” she said. “He goes after their dignity, their self-worth – and I don’t think there is a woman anywhere that doesn’t know what that feels like. So we now know what Donald thinks and what he says and how he acts toward women. That’s who Donald is.”
“I think it’s really up to all of us to demonstrate who we are and who our country is,” Clinton added. “And (it’s up to us) to stand up and be very clear about what we expect from our next president, how we want to bring our country together, where we don’t want to have the kind of pitting of people one against the other, where instead, we celebrate our diversity, we lift people up and we make our country even greater.”
And so, with the debates having been (thankfully) put to rest, it’s up to American voters to elect the 45th U.S. president. Hopefully, that presidency will not be a continuation of embarrassment to this great nation.
