GCI celebró gala anual de Blanco y Negro

El Centro de Guadalupe organizó su gala anual el viernes 18 de septiembre en el Westin Crown Center en Kansas City, Mo. Comida, entretenimiento y baile fueron algunas de las características que la noche trajo así como el reconocimiento de individuos excepcionales que apoyan y hacen parte de la comunidad latina.
Laura Dominguez, una de las jóvenes becadas expresó su gratitud ante el Centro de Guadalupe  y dijo que la beca le ha ayudado alcanzar una de sus metas.
“Me siento feliz,” dijo ella. “Me ha ayudado mucho. Estoy estudiando para ser maestra de primaria y quiero sacar un certificado para enseñar inglés como segunda lengua.”
La gala es también un evento para recolectar dinero para diferentes organizaciones sin fines de lucro del área de Kansas City que se enfocan en ayudar en proyectos de educación, salud, servicio sociales, y proyectos relacionados con la juventud.
*El premio Robert Reeds Negocio del Año fue para Santoras Pizzeria por su contribución excepcional a la comunidad latina.
* El premio Dorothy Gallagher fue para Mayela Visconti por su contribución excepción a Guadalupe Centers como trabajadora.
* El premio Thomas E. Purcell went to Cici Rojas por su contribución excepción a Guadalupe Centers como miembro del board.
* El premio Pat Rios fue para Ramona Arroyo por su contribución excepción a la comunidad de Westside.
*Quienes recibieron las becas fueron Laura Dominguez, Alexis Dominguez, Johni Gonzales, Jordynn Gonzalez, Alexander M. Lopez, Ivan Quiñones, Henry J. Ramirez, Serena Sparks, y Gabriela Tinoco.

GCI hosts annual Blanco y Negro event

Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI) recognized outstanding individuals and served up an evening of food and entertainment during its annual Blanco y Negro Gala (Black and White Gala in English) on Sept. 18 at Westin Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo.
“I feel very pleased,” said Latina student Laura Dominguez, who received a scholarship during the event. “It’s helped me a lot. I am studying to become an elementary school teacher, and I want to get a certificate in English as a second language.”
GCI uses the event not only to honor Latinos and supporters of the Latino community, but also to raise money for various Kansas City area non-profit organizations that focus on educational, health, social service and youth development projects.
*The Robert Reeds Business of the Year Award went to Santoras Pizzeria for outstanding contribution to the Latino community.
*The Dorothy Gallagher Award went to Mayela Visconti for exceptional contributions to the Guadalupe Centers as an employee.
*The Thomas E. Purcell Award went to Cici Rojas for exceptional contribution to the Guadalupe Centers as a board member.
